Yamada Arinaga



Yamada Arinaga (山田有栄; 1578-1668) is a retainer of Shimazu clan during Sengoku period and early Edo period and the eldest son of Yamada Arinobu. On 1587 after his father surrendered to Toyotomi Hidenaga at Taka Castle, he was given as a hostage to Hidenaga as a show of obedience. He has since fought as a retainer under the Shimazu clan at Seven-Year War, battle of Sekigahara and killed Ijuin Tadazane to put down a potential rebellion. He was counted as a most important retainer and became a Karo. During peacetime of Edo period, he took up teaching of retainers as well as developing industries. 1578 births 1668 deaths
