Witches Abroad

''Witches Abroad'' is a Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett, originally published in 1991. It is in the witches series. It features the three witches introduced in ''Wyrd Sisters'' (Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, and Magrat Garlick) visit Genua, on the other side of the continent, where they confront Granny's sister, Minor_Discworld_characters#Lily_Weatherwax, who is manipulating people using the power of stories. The plot contains references to many fairy tales and fantasy novels, including ''Little Red Riding Hood'', ''Sleeping Beauty'', ''Cinderella'', and ''The Frog Prince''. During the story the three witches, travelling in the deepest caves under the mountains, make a short encouter with some odd creature which claims to have anniversary (see Gollum), and later on Nanny Ogg has a house fall on her (a reference to the Wizard of Oz). There are also several references to Voodoo : there is a witch called Erzulie Gogol (Erzulie is the name of a voodoo goddess), and a zombie called Baron Samedi. ==''Witches Abroad'' translations== *''Вещици в чужбина'' (Bulgarian) *''Čarodějky na cestách'' (Czech) *''Heksen in de Lucht'' (Dutch) *''Nõiad võõrsil'' (Estonian) *''Noitia Maisemissa'' (Finnish) *''Mécomptes de Fées'' (French) *''Total Verhext'' (German) *''Vége a mesének'' (Hungarian) *''Hekser på tur'' (Norwegian) *''Wyprawa czarownic'' (Polish) *''Ведьмы за границей'' (Russian) *''Veštice na putu'' (Serbian) *''Brujas de Viaje'' (Spanish) *''Häxor i faggorna'' (Swedish) 1991 books Discworld books
