The Vz 52/57 rifle is a variation of the Czechoslovak CZ-52 Rifle chambered for the Soviet 7.62 x 39 mm M43 cartridge. The original CZ-52 Rifle was chambered for the unique 7.62 x 45mm M52 cartridge (also known as 7.62 x 45 Czech) but Czechoslovakia gave in to Soviet pressure to adopt its cartridge. The Vz 52/57 is identical except for its barrel and its magazines. Vz 52 magazines can be used in Vz 52/57s but they do not feed reliably. The Vz 52/57 was replaced by the Sa vz.58.
