Vegaswikian--User:JpgordonUser talk:Jpgordon 04:20, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC) == Can you confirm? == Hi! I just contributed a few lines to the two dollar bill page, which is, unfortunately, only speculation. I've never been to Las Vegas, so I don't know how accurate the info is, and I wonder if you might know better, since you live there. (The question is whether or not "gentlemen's clubs" tend to give out two dollar bills as change) Anyway, if you happen to know off the top of your head, or know someone else who might, I'd be curious to know. I'll keep an eye out for your reply. Thanks! User:Randyoo 00:03, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC) *Don't really know since I tend to not go to the clubs. Maybe you can try asking on the Las Vegas, Nevada discussion.User:Vegaswikian 00:09, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC) **Thanks, will do!User:Randyoo 00:14, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC) == LV WPers == Hi, are you physically in Las Vegas? I think we're getting enough locals to make a little club now, perhaps get together in person at some point. User:Stan Shebs 23:12, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC) :Yes, I live in Vegas, I suppose that a club could be set up. Don't know how much interest there is. Maybe it could be used as a way to get some people interested in adding material to some of the pages. I know I have created a lot of pointers and almost empty pages, but I keep running in to other pages that need fixing. And then I created a reasonably complete Red Rock Casino page and had it recommended for deletion almost as soon as it was created. Talk about frustrating! ::Don't let it get to you. Usually we consider things that are "coming soon" not, in general, to be proper subject materials for articles; this generally constitutes things like "Ashleigh Simpson's upcoming album", "the next episode in Final Fantasy", or "The 2012 Elections". This is because such articles are generally either completely speculative, based on rumors, or press releases. Red Rock Station (isn't that it's real name?) could be reasonably thought to be in that category, as can Wynn Las Vegas; you'll note that the VfD on Wynn was shouted down immediately, and the Red Rock VfD is going to fail as well. Don't take any of this personally. Anybody -- anybody -- can list something on VfD; and quite often the consensus of the community is "what the hell did you list that for?". --User:JpgordonUser talk:Jpgordon 23:52, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC) :::Yes, I understand that. Now. The Crystal Ball clearly talks about publishing and not structures. I'm thinking about a VfD for the Metropolitan page since that seems to be serving no purpose since it was created. I have also been moving things off the Vegas page that clearly, to me anyway, belong on another page like the Clark County one or the airport. I also just raised a question about where the MGM fire should be talked about. Kind of odd since it has its own page. The correct name for the red rock casino is "Red Rock Resort Spa and Casino" according to the stations web page.User:Vegaswikian 00:03, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC) One thing I've noticed is that it works better for new people to edit content within the existing framework of articles for awhile, then branch out into reorganization projects later; gives you a chance to get familiar with what logic there is. A lot of the organization has been painfully hammered out over the years, and it's become all too easy to step on someone's toes. Funny about VfD for Red Rock Station, I'm literally looking at it as I type - pretty solid-looking for a hypothetical... :-) User:Stan Shebs 01:36, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC) Hi, I'm also a Las Vegas-Wikipedian (Just so happened to see some of your edits) :)--User:Plato User talk: plato 07:10, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC) == Hello :-) == Welcome to wikipeda. User:BesigedB (User_talk:BesigedB) 13:45, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC) ==Casino categories== Hi there! The point of categories is to be as concise as possible and minimize the amount of overlap in overbroad categories. The point is not to 'hide' casinos in Nevada but to ensure that the casinos that aren't enough to warrant their own Casinos-by-state category to stand out. If we don't try to limit the scope of things then the categorization scheme can get out of control. For a good example, note how all cars are categorized by manufacturer, and not included under the Automobile category. Hope this clears it up. Regards --User:Hooperbloob 08:02, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC) *So are you planning to clean up the other ones like Casinos in Australlia? User:Vegaswikian 08:43, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC) == International airports category == I noticed you added a new category, International Airports. With ~800 airports in WP and a large faction are int, the we have about 400 airports to that category. It is much too broad in my opinion. Please reconsider. User:Burgundavia 08:06, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC) *The category was set up as a part of International Airport I just finished creating it. In the US, the vast majority of airports are not international. Europe likely has a higher percentage. Commerical airports probably make up less then 10% of all airports and International airports are a subset of that number. The issue with what's in WP right now is that it is biased towards the larger airports which are more likely to be international. As more airpots are added, the international ones will be a smaller subset of the total. In my state, I belive 2 out of 30+ airports are international. If you think this is really a bad idea, delete the entry in international airport and then the category itself. User:Vegaswikian 08:16, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC) == El Rancho Vegas == Yikes! I know you know that we know that now we're confused. Anyhow, don't added things like: "...the Las Vegas Strip in 1946 or on April 3, 1941." and "I found two dates for when the hotel opened, anyone know which is correct?" to the article page. You'll cause an uproar! I've got a perfect source of information about Vegas/Nevada (but I don't share!). I'll look into more details about El Rancho (Which burned down twice, and there was yet another one else where). User:Guy M (User talk:Guy M) 08:30, Apr 7, 2005 (UTC) :So, do you put the question on the talk page? How many people actually look there? The sources I had showed two different dates. I have an e-mail in to the MGM trying to find out the correct number of rooms. Geting facts is not a trival task it seems. Does your source say anything about the Imperial Palace and the garage being a part of the flood channel? Enjoy User:Vegaswikian 15:35, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC) ::(As I understand it; [I actually read ''more'' from metawiki than wikipedia]) The talk page should be used for all statements that can't be verified as factual with an outside source, opinions, comments, trivia, stories, questions, concerns.... all talk page items. You can watch talk pages too. A source that I can't offer for validation, a friend of mine that works front desk at the MGM Grand, tells me: "5,034 rooms, but only publicly claims 5,005" When asked why, he didn't know. Another friend (worked as an actor in EFX from pening to closing of it) says the same thing. No one can figure out why only 5,005 are claimed. I have heard it has to do with a continued interest in combining some rooms (planed since conversion to MGM from Marina) in the Emerald tower due to size, but structural issues make it costly. So they continue with the old room count. (Nothin' worse than throwing egg in your own face eh? ::Offering constructive criticism now (Don't hurt me! I'm not good at this). Your amount of content additions are wonderful! I feel I should steal you to work LVwiki. The "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" article seems to have been a C&P from another site. No can do...that's a copyright violation. OTOH, I agree that an article about that sign is long overdue. It's a true LV landmark. In fact, I always make it a point to enter town from the south end of the strip because I dig that sign as well. If you go to the original article, you'll see both the copyright notice and a red link to a temp page that you can add original info on. Hope this helps. - User:Lucky 6.9 20:37, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) *My sincerest apologies. I didn't know that site was a mirror. I'll fix it immediately. - User:Lucky 6.9 21:22, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) *No sweat. :) I've reverted back to your original edit and crossed out the entry on the copyvio page. Again, sorry 'bout the boo-boo. - User:Lucky 6.9 21:27, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) == Disney Theme Parks == Hi, Vegaswikian. I'm going to have to ask you not to add the Category:Amusement parks category to Disney theme park articles. Disney parks are theme parks, and therefore, go under Category:Theme parks, and also Category:Disney parks and attractions. Disney parks may be regarded as amusement parks by some, but theme parks are themed amusement parks, featuring "lands." Disney also claims Disney parks to be theme parks, and Walt Disney had even said that Disneyland (then the only Disney park) was not an amusement park, but a theme park, a new term he coined (although theme parks existed then, they were called amusement parks). I know it's really confusing, but just thought I should tell you. --User:Evanwohrman 23:55, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) *Amusement_park#Noteworthy_amusement.2C_theme_and_water_parks and the request in there was the source for my actions. Maybe a bigger discussion needs to be had on how those categories should be used. But the request there was to update everyting into the category. So, maybe you need to edit the request that I saw there and acted on. If we find the formal name, then the page should be moved. I did not move it since I'm not sure of the correct name. I had in on the McCarran page as 24 Hour fitness. User:Vegaswikian 05:54, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC) **Awsome, i don't recall seeing it the last time i was their, but in 2000 i think is when they were putting it in and i recall seeing a banner for them in Baggage Claim, as well as seeing an article about how it was the first "24 hour" fitness club to open in a US airport, also from their website (Copyright © 2002 24 Hour Fitness USA, Inc.) so it looks like caps, so i am gonna move it if their are no objections from your end. Also BTW nice work on the vegas pages. --User:Boothy443 | User talk:Boothy443 06:02, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC) ***Go ahead and move it, the sooner the better before there are more links to clean up. Thanks for the nice words on the Vegas pages. I'm till not sure about how they need to go. Then I need to clean up the airline ticket stuff I started. But as I type, I trying to set up the ''all american City'' category so that I can set up a category that I think is really needed. Then to do the disambig page. Oh, did you see the copyvio slapped on the welcome sign page as soon as I created it? User:Vegaswikian 06:08, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC) ****Umm no i didnt catch that one, send me the link to the page and i'll take a look at it see if i can't do something with it. --User:Boothy443 | User talk:Boothy443 06:12, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC) *****Thanks, but I screamed with facts and the person who put it there said he made a mistake and it's back. Interesting. Indeed, that redirect didn't work until I fixed it just now; it looked its broken-ness was an artifact of the parentheses being rendered improperly as %28 and %29. ([http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Townsend%2C_MA&diff=0 This edit fixed it.]) I thought at first perhaps this was an artifact of the way that parentheses were rendered, but some links, like Trempealeau (village), WI work just fine, while others (like Trempealeau (town), WI) had the same problem. I really am not sure what it is. But I'm not overly concerne; these redirects exist for the primary purpose of aiding searching and preventing people from creating duplicate articles at the article name with the postal abbreviation, for someone to stumble into one of the redirects with broken parentheses is incredibly unlikley, and the vast vast majority of the redirects (the important ones) are just fine. I don't believe it's any harm to the 'pedia. -- User:Seth Ilys 22:03, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC) == Categories == You can't push stuff to the bottom as categories are dynamically generated by the software. Since I put the bio-stub thing in all of them, do you really think that's necessary? I didn't write them as full biographies because it's hard to find information of some of those folks. I merely created small stub biographies so that NM Governors would have footnotes, at least. User:YourNickname 07:44, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC) :Replying... Ah, well, I do better with my Senator bioraphies. Have you seen my pride and joy biography: Clinton Presba Anderson. :D I like flaunting that, hehe. Anyway, I understand. Really, there's almost no information about most of New Mexico's Governors on the inetrnet, so I just added what I personally knew about some of them. But I would still like to see more articles about college bands on Wikipedia. It really helps to give a better feel for the music scene of an area or university. Maybe this group and other groups whose writeups I've created aren't "notable" in and of themselves, but small discussions of their music really humanize the writeup for the university that they are students of. If you're going by the letter of the law, this writeup probably should be deleted, but please leave me a message before you do so. - User:McCart42 15:00, 2005 Apr 26 (UTC) :*Thanks for your comment. Thanks for the reply. I'll put together an example table - probably on Excalibur (just because I started that here already as an example so why not continue?). While I understand why you say that "hotel information should be kept separate from casino info" as there are a number of casinos that do not have hotels associated with them and vice-versa, when people visit various hotels/casinos they are as interested in the major amenities each resort has (rooms, pools, shows) as they are with the gaming areas. For casinos that do not have hotels/shows/pools, then it is just as easy to say "N/A" for those selections as an indicator that those places do not have those features (Harrah's New Orleans or Slots O Fun(?) being the first ones off the top of my head to not have hotels on-premises. So in the meanwhile, I'll come up with the category list and then we can decide what to keep/toss off that as a starting point. This should be fun. User:Georgia guy 00:25, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Majeediyya School == Hello there, I just noticed you removed VegaswikianOK, I had been thinking about this page for a while and still have no idea what to put on it, but since someone suggested that I really do need it maybe it's time. So here goes. I heard about wiki a while ago and never followed up. Then I was asked to participate in a wiki project and never followed up. Then in looking up something I ran into some wiki answers. While reading that entry, it provided a lot of good information but also contained some totally false statements, or at best incorrect statements. My belief is that a public resource should be as accurate as possible. So you jump in on one item and get trapped. My background includes a BS. I have worked in large and small companies, I made lawn furniture, did injection molding, mechanical inspection, worked in retail, spent time in management, used the education process to explore stage work and radio broadcasting. I have always traveled so I was exposed to many parts over the US. Most of my career was spent in programming or associated support functions. When I started with computers in school we even had an analog computer to use, is that even defined in wiki? I have been doing a mix of adding stuff that I think should be included, fixing what is wrong, trying to add the category tag to entries, occasionally looking at the VfD page which I learned about after someone put a page I had created on it. I have looked at the stubs for items I may know something about and tried to improve the articles. That's how I found the Ladder Bay article which I was able to add to since I recalled a few facts from my previous visits to the island of Saba. I have been described by many as "a jack of all trades, and a master of none". I know enough about a lot of things to get by but a know a lot less in those areas then many others. I'm not sure if that is a blessing or a curse. I'm also a good problem finder but not always a good problem fixer. Finally even though English is my only language, it is also my worst language when it comes to using it. So, if I do a major add, it probably means someone needs to clean up my English.
