The advice you've been given above is perfectly sound. However, there are differences between images with photos, and drawings. Photos can be shrunk using tools such as Photoshop, Paint shop pro etc., and there are really two stages: 1. Change the physical dimensions and then 2. change the level of JPEG compression. These two do interact slightly, but as a general rule if you combine both you will get pretty small file sizes, and others who have low bandwidth links will thank you. If you think anyone will want to have better quality, there are two options - 1. don't scale down to the absolute linear limit - perhaps use a size which is 1.5 (linear) larger than you want - this will give a file which has about twice as much data before jpeg compression, and will have a bit more detail - or 2. use small, lowish qualiy thumbnails and link these to larger image files for those who want to download better quality. For drawings it is really not such a good idea to use jpeg - probably gif or png are better. What about files which have drawings+ photos? There isn't really a sensible standard yet - what is really needed is a system which provides layers - jpg for photos, plus a drawing oriented description language for the drawing. Even gif and png aren't really good for drawings, since they don't scale properly. Una "Taxobox" con molti livelli può risultare pesante, non ho problemi nell'applicarla, cambiando il template per il futuro. Per quanto riguarda i nomi, preferisco l'italiano per identificare la suddivisione tassonomica, anche se poi la voce l'ho registrata in latino. Poichè avevo scelto una box più limitata, in certi casi ho messo sia latino che italiano, ma nel caso di box che inizi dal regno e meglio limitarsi all'italiano. L'aggiunta dei nomi in lingue straniere per le specie, serve per riconoscere animali in testi stranieri (molto spesso mi sono scontrato con articoli in internet, facenti riferimento ad animali, di cui non capivo la specie se non molto a grandi linee, come per i gabbiani). La classificazione tassonimica è sempre un problema, suddivisioni, generi, specie sono sempre in evoluzione. Io ho come base, una enciclopedia molto recente "Handbook of the Birds of the World" di Josep del Hoyo, Andrew Elliot e Jordi Sargatal dell Lynx Edicions di Barcellona. La trattazione degli uccelli è molto ampia e dettagliata con l'indicazione anche di Rhea pennata, ma come primo inizio identificativo, sostituito poi con Pterocnemia pennata. Poiche il libro è completo, mancano solo gli "oscini" o passeracei, che sono ancora in corso di produzione, ritengo di tenerlo come base per tutti i miei articoli, eventualmente si puo creare la voce Rhea pennata, con un "REDIRECT" verso Pterocnemia pennata. OK?

As you can see on my own User page user:Vanderesch somebody suggested a way, but after 3 weeks Google still doesn't come up with a hit on the Neem article. Do you know a solution that might work?? Googles webcrawler Googlebot periodically downloads the all wikipedia pages. It does take a few more weeks to a couple of months for Googlebot to get back around to wikipedia since it is constantly downloading and indexing at least some part of the net. That darn John is too quick for me. :) Still, great minds think alike: when I hit the edit conflict, his edit and mine were virtually identical. As for your size question, that could be more difficult. Small images, especially line drawings with lines off the simple vertical and horizontal, do not scale well. In this particular case, the size of the image looks just right to me: I wouldn't change it. But for future reference, I'll mention that what you really need to do to produce a reasonable quality image of any given size is work from a very large original and let your image-editing software have as many pixels to work with as possible. Also, try to shrink in even fractions. A 33% shrink, for example, nearly always looks much better than a 37% or 31% shrink. So, it looks as though there was no need for me to answer at all in this case. (John obviously types faster than I do. I guess he cheats and uses both hands at the same time!)
