The strip's humor tends to be centered around technology jokes, and so-called geek humor. It is drawn and authored by J.D. Frazer, a.k.a. "Illiad". The Chief is also a closet guitar player, having spent years mastering the art of perfect tone, only to have computers come along and render all of his effort meaningless. ===Dust Puppy=== Born in a server from a combination of dust, lint and quantum mechanics events, the Dust Puppy looks similar to a ball of dust and lint, with eyes, feet and an occasional big smile. Originally, Erwin occupied the classic 'Computer display and Computer keyboard' type computer with an x86 computer architecture, but was later given such residences as an iMac, a Palm, Inc. III, a Coleco Adam on Mir, a Furby, a nuclear missile guidance system, an Silicon Graphics O2, a Hewlett-Packard Calculator (with reverse Polish notation), a Lego Mindstorms construction, a Tamagotchi, a Segway, a Mech-Warrior Timber Wolf exo-skeleton, and an internet equipped toilet as a punishment for insulting Hastur. ===Greg Flemming=== Greg is in charge of Technical Support at the company. Although she has yet to reveal any character flaws, it is a commonly held belief in psychological circles that "perfect" people like her are deeply disturbed neurotics with sociopathic tendencies. Garrett's inability to express himself and his love for her. ===Pitr Dubovich=== Pitr is the admin of the Columbia Internet server, and a self proclaimed Linux guru. He suddenly began to speak with a fake Slavic accent as part of his program to "Become an Evil Genius." He has almost succeeded in taking over the planet several times. His sworn enemy is #Sid Dabster, who seems to outdo him at every turn. Pitr's achievements include: Making the world's (second) strongest coffee, merging Coca Cola and Pepsi into Pitr-Cola and making Columbia Internet millions with a nuclear weapon purchased from Russia. ===Sid Dabster=== Sid is the oldest of the geeks, and very knowledgable. His advanced age gives him the upper hand against #Pitr Dubovich, whom he has outdone on several occasions; including in a coffee brewing competition and in a (rather biased) game of Jeopardy. As you can appreciate, I've put a lot of time into editing User Friendly, but I'm not going to try to prevent others from editing, indeed I would actively encourage it. ::: I would suggest that since these changes have been made, User Friendly characters become a list of no more than one line per character, with appropriate off page links. Initially those would be to the main site, where the full main characters would be, but hopefully each of the main characters would eventually have their own page. The regular characters are more difficult to deal with, as they won't ever merit a page each, but might merit a page to themselves - in fact as I think about it, what I suggest is that the User Friendly Characters list become Main character Links, Regular characters (with their descriptions), and links to an occasional characters page and a guest characters page. This would allow more expansion, and would be a logical way to split them up. ::: I still think we would be better served by a compacted TOC, and accept that huwr and I are unlikely to agree on that. I have merged in the content from the articles for Dust Puppy and Erwin in preparation of a redirect of those two pages to this page. This main article still has lots of room for character descriptions. If/when the article grows too large, those pages can be resplit out. It's perhaps a pity that I didn't notice that the discussion had been updated, as it would be fair to say that I've had a large part in making the page look the way it did, and I certainly preferred the compacted TOC. : Having said that, the article was getting a little too long, and I was considering the best way to split it. I'm happy to accept all the minor changes (including the change of funny to popular), but I feel that the changes made by Huwr are certainly not 'minor' (as he appears to) - and I'm not convinced it's the best way to do it. The new "User Friendly Characters" page will very quickly become unwieldy as well, as the only difference between it and the old page is that it is missing a small description at the top, and the bibliography at the bottom. As you can appreciate, I've put a lot of time into editing User Friendly, but I'm not going to try to prevent others from editing, indeed I would actively encourage it. ::: I would suggest that since these changes have been made, User Friendly characters become a list of no more than one line per character, with appropriate off page links. Initially those would be to the main site, where the full main characters would be, but hopefully each of the main characters would eventually have their own page. The regular characters are more difficult to deal with, as they won't ever merit a page each, but might merit a page to themselves - in fact as I think about it, what I suggest is that the User Friendly Characters list become Main character Links, Regular characters (with their descriptions), and links to an occasional characters page and a guest characters page. This would allow more expansion, and would be a logical way to split them up. ::: I still think we would be better served by a compacted TOC, and accept that huwr and I are unlikely to agree on that.
