TsaritsaA Tsaritsa (Цари́ца), also called ''tsarina'', ''czarina'', or ''czaritsa'', was the title of Tsar's wife or a female autocratic ruler (monarch) of Russia or Bulgaria. Several Tsaritsas were the rulers of Russia including Catherine I of Russia, Catherine the Great and Elizabeth of Russia . Others who gained the title by marrying a Tsar were Princess Maria Louisa of Baden, Alexandra Fyodorovna (Charlotte of Prussia), Maria Alexandrovna (Marie of Hesse-Rhein), Dagmar of Denmark and Eleonore, Princess Reuss-Kstritz, who became Tsaritsa of Bulgaria following her marriage to Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria. The last Russian Tsaritsa was Princess Alexandra of Hesse who was married to Nicholas II of Russia. The final Bulgarian Tsaritsa was Giovanna of Bulgaria, the wife of Tsar Boris III of Bulgaria. Imperial Russia Lists of office-holders Russian leaders Titles Tsaritsa"The last Tsarina was Alexandria who was married to Nichols II of Russia." There were tsars after Alexander II. Were they unmarried? - And in any case, "Alexandria" seems a strange personal name. S. The last Tsar was Nicholas II of Russia and Alexandra of Hesse was his spouse. This has absolutely nothing to do with Tsar Alexander II of Russia. ''Alexandra'' is a common female name, dual to male ''Alexander''.
