Hi Tristan, we haven't come accross each other's edits for quite a while! I was just wondering if microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (i.e. bite cells/schistocytes) are picked up automatically by automated analysers. Do you remember getting flagged blood films because of this??

This is important because (I think) they can be mistaken for platelets with some automated techniques. :Where I work, we make a film on everything with this flag, and a technologist will look for funny-looking cells (and describe them properly). Also, if a reticulocyte count is added, (done on the same machine) it'll report a more accurate (optical) platelet count. :Hopefully I'll start writing here again a bit more frequently.
