Toxin is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics Marvel Universe. Carnage (comics), the offspring of Venom (comics), was about to give birth to a third symbiote. Carnage felt threatened by this new presence and hoped to destroy it. Venom, on the other hand, wanted to raise and train it to be his new partner. After the birth, Carnage was too weak to kill the newborn, so he planted it into a cop named Patrick Mulligan. After a few days, the symbiote surfaced during a battle with Carnage; Toxin was born. Toxin won the battle against Carnage, but was unable to kill his father in cold blood. This act of mercy proved to Venom that Toxin would never become his ally. Venom and Carnage formed a temporary truce in order to eliminate this new threat. After a five-way battle, Toxin, Spider-Man, and the Black Cat (comics) managed to defeat the deadly duo. Patrick then decided to leave his family to spare them the curse of Toxin and use the uncontrollable monster inside him to do the right thing. In 2005, after Spider-Man joined the New Avengers, Marvel started a Toxin miniseries, which charts the character's battle with supervillains with various mental problems. Thus far, he has met Dr. Calvin Zabo(who regards his alter ego, Mister Hyde (comics), as his 'true self') and Razor Fist(who is a victim of self-harm).
