Texas RoadThe Texas Road was a major cattle trail in the eastern part of Indian Territory. Also called the ''East Shawnee Trail'', it was used by settlers on their way to Texas during the Mexican War, and was used heavily during the Cival War as a supply line. The road streched from Baxter Springs, Kansas in the north all the way to Colbert's Ferry, Texas in the south. There were two parts of the trail that set out from Kansas, the eastern trail which followed the Grand River to Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, and the western trail which started in Missouri and passed through Fort Wanye before joining the other trail. It then continued south to the Red River (Mississippi watershed) along the Texas border. Along the road, several stations were setup where travelers could rest and refresh their horses. During the Civil War, both Union and Confederate armies used this route to move supplies and troops. The Battle of Honey Springs was also fought along the road. == External links == [http://digital.library.okstate.edu/Chronicles/v003/v003p099.html Oklahoma Historical Society Chronicles] Texas road#REDIRECT Texas Road See other meanings of words starting from letter: TTA | TB | TC | TD | TE | TF | TG | TH | TI | TJ | TK | TL | TŁ | TM | TN | TO | TP | TR | TS | TU | TW | TX | TY | TZ |Words begining with Texas_road: Texas_Road Texas_road |
