Techincally speaking, the opening sentence of this article is untrue. Look at the grammar. Any suggestions on correcting it? 'Solid' is often (incorrectly?) used as a noun. A sentence like 'Sodiumchloride is a solid at room temperature' is perfectly legible, although it should read 'Sodiumchloride is solid at room temperature'. (Ben, 14 Aug 2004) :"A solid is a state of matter" doesn't sound right to me, either, although there is no problem with using ''solid'' as a noun - the OED says that the noun ''solid'' comes from the adjective ''solid''.
