SanacjaSanacja was a coalition political movement of the Second Polish Republic in the inter war years. It was created following in 1926 by Józef Pilsudski. It was a wide movement created to support "moral sanitation" of the society and the politics in Poland prior to and after the May Coup d'Etat of 1926. ==History== Named after the Latin word for sanitation (''sanatio''), the movement was formed primarily by former military officers disgusted with the corrupt nature of Polish politics. It represented a coalition of members from the right, the left, and centrists. Its main focus was to eliminate corruption within Poland and to minimize inflation. It appeared prior to the 1926 Coup d'Etat and lasted until the Polish Defence War of 1939, but it never was formalised. Since Piłsudski himself strongly opposed all political party which he saw as promoting their own interests instead of supporting the state and its people, Sanacja never led to creation of a political party. Instead, in 1928 various Sanacja members took active part in creation of the Bezpartyjny Blok Wspolpracy z Rzadem (''Non-party Block for Cooperation with the Government''), a bizarre coalition political party claiming not to be one. Although Piłsudski never personally claimed the power, he had much influence over Polish politics after the Sanacja took the power in 1926. For the next decade, Piłsudski dominated Polish affairs as a strongman of a generally popular centrist regime. Military in character, the government of Kazimierz Bartel and all the following governments were unofficially accepted by Józef Piłsudski before they could be accepted by the president. Piłsudski mixed democratic and dictatorial elements while pursuing the ''sanacja'', or national cleansing. Indeed, the internal stability was increased and thanks to the successful reforms by Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski the economical stagnation ended. However, at the same time Sanacja persecuted the communist parties, tried to limit the importance of the opposition by dividing them from the inside onto several factions. In April 1935, shortly before Piłsudski's death, a new constitution was passed which supported all the main ideas of Sanacja: strong, centralised state with the presidential system of government. However, Piłsudski died soon after the new act was passed and sanacja faced several serious internal problems. Eventually it evolved into three separate movements: # The Leftists (''Lewica sanacyjna'', formed around Walery Slawek), who sought some modus vivendi with the opposition, # Royal Castle in Warsaw (''Zamek'', formed around the president Ignacy Moscicki who resided in the Warsaw Castle - hence the name), who later became the centre # The Rightists (''Prawica sanacyjna'', formed around Edward Rydz-Smigly) which soon became almost inseparable from the OZN party. The first of the groups soon lost much of its significance, but the other two continued the ideological struggle for the shape of the country until the war broke out. Many of Sanacja members were taken POW by the Germany during the Polish Defence War of 1939, others were evacuated to Romania where they stayed until the rest of the war or managed to reach France and United Kingdom. Although France insisted on not including Sanacja in the Polish Government in Exile, many of them remained highly influential. After the war their forced exile was made permanent by the communist regime, which branded them as enemy of the state. ==Notable participants== * Józef Beck * Tadeusz Holowko * Janusz Jedrzejewicz * Adam Koc * Boguslaw Miedzinski * Aleksander Prystor * Walery Slawek * Kazimierz Switalski ==See also== * Bezpartyjny Blok Wspólpracy z Rzadem (BBWR) * OZN * History of Poland Polish history SanacjaHello Sanacja, Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers to Wikipedia. It was not even formalize party, and for sure the slogan ("one...") is nonsense. As far as I am concerned, Pilsudski after his activity in PPS, never found another political party. The official party of Sanacja period, was called OZON. Please provide proved for your thesis User:AM *Sanacja was a socialist party with a nationalist background. It was never purely nationalist, true, but like most parties in European countries during the interwar period it utilized nationalistic slogans for public support. If you question the information on Sanacja, or its founder Jozef Pilsudski, you can refer to such books as "Europe" by Norman Davis, "Bitter Glory" by Watt, or "Drugiej Rzeczypospolitej poczatki" by Andrzej Garlicki. There are also some references on Yahoo! and on Google, but they are less informative. As for the parties current status, there is no real way that I can prove to you that we exist which would be satisfactory to everyone on here. I did not realize that adding a reference to our small party would generate so much vocalization for censorship. User:Sanacja 02:10, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC) ** Sorry chap, I have read original print of Jozef Pilsudski. He was not a nationalist in traditional meaning of this word. If you want to create a new party, why you try to convince anybody, that this is the same party as it was in 1926?? ** From the information that I have seen on both Pilsudski and Sanacja, it was nationalistic in nature. Maybe your definition of Nationalism and ours are different. Its purpose was to advance the Polish nation, and specifically to protect it from the threats of its aggressive neighbors. Pilsudski only wrote on his campaign against the Russians, and some patriotic poetry, both of which are very nationalistic in nature. Not sure what else to tell you. User:Sanacja 02:18, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC) ---- Perhaps the article would be more generally acceptable if it focused primarliy on the historical party, giving detailed verifiable facts, dates, names, etc. Then a note that there is a Modern Sanacja party that holds the same ideals as the historical party. Then you could put details about the modern party in the modern article. Seperating the two is likely to cause far less controversy. User:AnthonyQBachler 04:07, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC) *That is actually a good idea, thank you. I will do this. Hopefully it will clear up the confussion and stop the arguments. Simple google search provides verification of info, or check http://wiem.onet.pl/wiem/00fc84.html User:Katarzyna 02:25, 21 Feb 2004 (UTC) == This page needs cleanup == Really, I mean it. I removed the "Nationalist" from the header since it was everything but nationalist. It was, just like Pilsudski himself, unionist, which meant that it promoted all national minorities as long as they stayed loyal to the state. It was nationalistic only as long as the term "Poles" was applied to all the inhabitants of Poland. Other usage is misleading. Also, it's hard to call Sanacja a political party. Since it was totally informal ('though the people involved were widely known as its members), it was more of a political movement. It never had a statute, council or never participated in any elections. There is a huge difference between sanacja, BBWR and OZON.
