Saho language

The Saho language is an East Cushitic languages language of Eritrea, spoken in the middle of the country, as well as by a small group across the border in Ethiopia. Their territory is bounded by the bay of Arafali in the east, the Laasi Ghedé valleys in the south, the Abyssinian high plateau to the west (Akkele-Guzai, Shimezana, and Agamé), and Mt. Bizen and the Samhar to the north. It borders Tigre language on the west and its close relative Afar language on the east. It has four main dialects: Toroa, Assaorta, Minifero, and Irob. It has about 200,000 speakers. It is so closely related to Afar language that some regard them as dialects of a single "Saho-Afar language". ==External links== * [http://www.ethnologue.com/show_language.asp?code=SSY Ethnologue on Saho] * [http://llacan.cnrs-bellevue.fr/ENGLISH/Rech/Langues/saho.htm Saho -LLACAN] (with map) * [http://www.rosettaproject.org/live/search/detailedlanguagerecord?ethnocode=SSY Saho - Rosetta Project] East Cushitic languages Languages of Eritrea Languages of Ethiopia
