RoshRosh is a Hebrew language word used in a number of contexts: *Rosh is a Hebrew word meaning "head", "beginning". The root letters (shoresh) of the word are Resh/Aleph/Shin. It is, therefore, the root of the first word in the Bible: Bereishit (Genesis 1:1), meaning "in (be-) the beginning". Alternatively, it can mean "chief" (e.g. Ezek. 38:2,3; 39:1). *Rosh, known as ("The Rosh"), is a Hebrew acronym which refers to Rabbi Asher ben Jehiel (1250-1328), from Germany, a prominent Talmudic scholar. *Rosh Hashanah is the day of the Jewish New year. *Rosh Chodesh is the first day of each Hebrew calendar. *Rosh Hashanah (Talmud) is a tractate in the Mishna and Talmud dealing with a number of issues, including laws related to the holiday of Rosh Hashanah. *Rosh Yeshiva is a title for the religious leader of a Yeshiva, a Jewish school of higher religious study. *Rosh HaMemshala ("head [of] the government") is "Prime Minister of Israel" in modern Hebrew. *Rosh Hanikra is a geologic formation on the Mediterranean Coast in western Galilee, on the Israeli side of the Israel-Lebanon border. It is a chalk cliff face which opens up into spectacular grottos. ''Rosh Hanikra'' can be translated as "Head of the Grotto". *Rosh Hanikra is the name of a kibbutz nearby the Rosh Hanikra cliff and grotto. Hebrew words RoshIs this entry necessary for a general interest encyclopaedia? Just because Eaton's public domain 1800s Christian encyclopaedia has thousands of entries doesn't mean that this encyclopaedia needs to do so. If we followed this kind of micro-entry format, we'd end up with thousands of tiny entries for Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. I totally agree that Wikipedia needs many comprehensive articles on religion, but Wikipedia is not meant to be a religious dictionary or encyclopaedia. All I am asking is that we make sure that our entries are comprehensive, and not unnecessarily fractured into micro-entries. Sub-entries should only be created when there is a compelling need to do so.
