Renault Vel SatisThe Vel Satis is a luxury car produced by Renault. It was first launched at the 2001 Geneva Motorshow as to replace the aging Renault Safrane and had nothing in common with the concept car with which it shared it's name. It is distinguished by its unusual height, which benefits interior space, but results in rather ungainly proportions. It has a five star EuroNCAP rating and it is available with 4 cylinder 2.0 liter turbo or Nissan's ubiquitous V6 3.5 liter gasoline engines or 4 cylinder 2.2 liter and Isuzu ''DMAX V6 engine'' V6 3.0 liter Diesel engines. The Vel Satis shares it's platform with the Laguna and Espace IV and is produced on the same assembly line in Sandouville, France. ==Abnormal acceleration incident== In October 2004, a Vel Satis supposedly accelerated on its own to over 120 mph (190 km/h) on the French A71 autoroute. It stayed at that speed for over an hour, causing the police to have to clear the roads until the car stopped near a toll booth. The incident supposedly happened due to a faulty cruise control and the magnetic ignition system used by the Vel Satis. Renault has investigated the car, but found no faults with the car and is now doing legal investigations. ==External links== ===About the car=== *[http://www.renault.com/gb/produits/velsatis.htm Official site] *[http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php?file=car.php&carnum=626 Ultimate car page article about Vel Satis] ===About the incident=== *[http://www.forbes.com/home/feeds/ap/2004/10/06/ap1578811.html Renault takes legal steps against driver] *[http://slashdot.org/articles/04/10/05/1539203.shtml?tid=126 A car with a mind of its own] *[http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/10/07/133232&threshold=-1&tid=126 A car with a mind of its own - Part 2] Renault vehicles See other meanings of words starting from letter: RRA | RB | RC | RD | RE | RF | RG | RH | RI | RJ | RK | RL | RM | RN | RO | RP | RS | RT | RU | RW | RX | RY | RZ |Words begining with Renault_Vel_Satis: Renault_Vel_Satis |
