Red Army Choir

The Red Army Choir is a choir that formed the official army choir of the former Soviet Union's Red Army. Its membership is exclusively made up of men. The songs they perform range from Russian folk tunes to Church hymns and popular music; examples include "Katyusha (song)", "Kernina" and "Ave Maria". Since the collapse of the Soviet Union they have performed before dignitaries both inside and outside Russia, such as Pope John Paul II. Particularly stirring is their rendition of the Hymn of the Red October, which can be found in the popular 1990 movie "Hunt for the Red October". Unlike many choirs, the Red Army Choir relies more on bass and baritone than tenor leads, in fact you can hear little if no tenor overtone in their renditions. Soviet Army Choirs
