Randolph-Macon Woman's College'''Randolph-Macon Woman's College''' is a private liberal arts college women's college located in Lynchburg, Virginia, Virginia. Founded in 1893, the school enrolls 760 students. RMWC offers programs of study leading to a bachelor's degree in business, education, health services, and the liberal arts. The college was founded by William Waugh Smith, then-president of Randolph-Macon College, under Randolph-Macon's charter after failing to introduce co-education to the college; however, the college has been governed by a separate board of trustees since 1953. The College has been well-respected as an academic institution, being the first independent women's college in the south to earn a Phi Beta Kappa chapter (in 1917). Notable alumnae include Nobel Prize-winning author Pearl S.
