Raiden

Raiden (雷電) is a god of thunder and lightning in Japanese mythology; his name is derived from the Japanese language words ''rai'' (thunder) and ''den'' (lightning). He is typically depicted as a demon beating a drum to create thunder. Tradition credits Raiden for the failure of the Mongols to invade Japan in 1274, as he is said to have created the storm (''kamikaze'') that hindered their progress. His companion is the demon Raiju. Raiden is sometimes credited with eating the bellybuttons or bellies of children. Raiden entered Western culture pop culture in the fighting game ''Mortal Kombat'', in which a character based on Raiden (also spelled Rayden) appeared. Raiden

I tried to link this to the Japanese Wikipedia entry for Raiden (雷電) but there is no entry. There is a disambig page but none of the entries refer to the mythological God. I find that funny. If I knew more Japanese I would attempt to create one. --User:Feitclub 14:18, Nov 5, 2004 (UTC) Raiju's entry mentions the danger of sleeping on one's back outside in a thunderstorm (there's also a breathing hazard, did anyone ever think of that?) because Raiden will fire arrows to dislodge his pet having slept in someone's navel, but I've also heard of Raiden eating people's navels out in order to recover him. If someone can confirm it, that'd be a neat addition.
