QQ, originally called OICQ, is the most popular free instant messaging computer program in People's Republic of China. It was initially developed by Tencent Inc. in February 1999. Tencent Inc. has since changed its name to QQ, because ICQ accused it of using a similar name. It is estimated that the users of QQ in China number more than 15,000,000. As of 5 March 2005, on the Mainland China server, an average of 9,000,000 people are online at any one time. Using QQ on the Mainland China Server is known to be a very good resource for learners of Chinese, as most Chinese people who use QQ have little contact with foreigners, and may be eager to make foreign friends. ==See also== *List of instant messengers *Comparison of instant messengers ==External links== *[http://qq.bur.st/ Learning Chinese using QQ] An English introduction to using QQ and learning chinese on it. *[http://www.qq.co.za/ QQ messenger] (Uses South African Server) *[http://www.qq.com/ Official Website] (Uses Mainland China Server) *[http://im.qq.com/ Instant Messenger Software] (in Chinese) *[http://www.tencent.com/index_e.shtml Company Website] *[http://www.qqjapan.com/ QQ Japan] (in Japanese) Windows-only instant messengers ---- QQ is sometimes used on the Internet as an abbreviation for crying. (Two big eyes with tears at the bottom) There is something called "QICQ" now. Is it something compatible to QQ, or is it some sort of add-in to the system? Somebody in the Chinese version claimed that it is the new name for QQ, but I wonder, as such information was not found in the official website of QQ. --User:Tomchiukc 07:25, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC) :so far as i know, "OICQ" stands for "open ICQ". i don't know how they got this name, but it was changed into "QQ" shortly later. --User:Yacht User talk:Yacht 17:50, Jun 25, 2004 (UTC) #redirect QQ See other meanings of words starting from letter:A | B | C | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | R | S | T | U | V | X | Y | Z | |
