Draw your own analogies for the USA and Greece of today:
''"The idea concerns the fact that this country wants nostalgia. They want to go back as far as they can – even if it¢s only as far as last week. Not to face now or tomorrow, but to face backwards. And yesterday was the day of our cinema heroes riding to the rescue at the last possible moment. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse - or the man who always came to save America at the last moment – someone always came to save America at the last moment – especially in “B” movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan – and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at – like a B movie"'' -- Gil Scott-Heron, \"B\" Movie
"[In the days of slavery] there was two kinds of slaves. There was the house Negro and the field Negro. The house Negroes, they lived in the house with master, they dressed pretty good, they ate good 'cause they ate his food and what he left. They lived in the attic or the basement, but still they lived near the master; and they loved their master more than the master loved himself. They would give their life to save the master's house quicker than the master would. The house Negro, if the master said, 'We got a good house here,' the house Negro would say, 'Yeah, we got a good house here.' Whenever the master said 'we,' he said 'we.' That's how you can tell a house Negro. If the master's house caught on fire, the house Negro would fight harder to put the blaze out than the master would. If the master got sick, the house Negro would say, 'What's the matter, boss, we sick?' We sick! He identified himself with his master more than his master identified with himself. And if you came to the house Negro and said, 'Let's run away, let's escape, let's separate,' the house Negro would look at you and say, 'Man, you crazy. What you mean, separate? Where is there a better house than this? Where can I wear better clothes than this? Where can I eat better food than this?' That was that house Negro. In those days he was called a 'house nigger.' And that's what we call him today, because we've still got some house niggers running around here." -- Malcolm X - because we also got some of those running around Greece, still, even if it's been 200 years ever since the overthrow of the Ottoman occupation...

== Copyrights in Greece ==
The article stub is all well and good, but it doesn't answer the question: can we use Greek military logos for these articles? Does Greece have an equivalent to the US public domain military where you can use non-classified images taken by military photographers in the course of their official duties? If so, we should create a tag for them.

Hi there,
I disagree that magic tricks aren't covered by copyright and I agree with the anon. They are creative works by a single person and should not be reproduced without their permission. Whether it's the trick or the written instructions that are copyrighted is unimportant. - User:MacGyverMagic|User talk:MacGyverMagic 11:05, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)
*Well, ellusionist.com obviously isn't breaking copyright laws. Corey himself agreed to sell the effect through them. Do you think, we shouldn't protect the secret of recently created commercial magic effects anyway, regardless of whether it's really copyright protected or not? To me it seems unfair, to make a product freely available when people should actually pay for the secret. Not to mention the fact that whoever posted it broke the magician's oath. - User:MacGyverMagic|User talk:MacGyverMagic 14:21, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

== Vergina's comment ==
I think, I'll have to correct you. I perfectly know that removing comments is bad taste, but: 1. There is a comment section, specially designed for that 2. Vergina's comment is disrupting the numbering script of the "Macedonians" vote 3. I haven't removed it, I have just replaced it in the lower part of the talk page.:) Also, Vergina's comment is out of context. I do believe that you actually haven't seen the contents of the talk page - there is a poll whether the article should be named "Macedonians" or "Macedonian Slavs" (actually, it is more like proving whether Greeks or Macedonians are more numerous on Wikipedia). Considering that you are Greek, or somehow related to Greece, please vote on the "Slavs" side, and deprive me from my nationality. Actually, I prefer to be called a Macedonian Ape, instead. Best regards. --User:FlavrSavr 07:43, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

==Hand on the Torch==
The reason I removed the Hip hop and Jazz album categories from ''Hand on the Torch'' was that I filed :Category:Us3 albums there, so there's no reason for an album in that category to be filed ''separately'' in the same categories. There's actually a fairly clear Wikipedia policy about not filing articles simultaneously in categories and subcategories of the same category. User:Bearcat 23:02, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I was, literaly, discharged from my Guard Post
* User interface engineering standards I haven't been able to find a good description of what a good gui should consist of, or how data maps into a GUI. Personally, I think of GUI programming/design as meta-programming/design, because to me, it doesn't have to do with programming (as in the algorithmic solution to a problem) as much as it has to do with the pictorisation(sp?)/visualisation of data (how data is re/presented). So, I am looking to put together a guide that explains the basic features of a modern gui and their functions, (command buttons, checkboxes, radio boxes, textboxes, etc, etc), how to use them and how to deliver (within a rule of thumb) a consistent interface. I will acknowledge that Microsoft and Apple have gone a long way into researching User interface engineering (i should place the URLs to the apple gui standards). but more needs to be out in the open. I haven't found any good books on the topic, either. Most of the literature I have gone over assumes the user is a moron and is programming in MS Windblows... :)

* Guard Duty. So, what's a (very) bored software engineer going to do, while on tour in the Greek Armed Forces, with tons of time in his hands, a intel P90 laptop running Debian, is going to do? Why, copy the functions of the software, make an exact duplicate that works like the original one, add extra functionality with Perl on it, so the incomming mail gets distributed automatically, then, watch his CO give him a lecture about how you're not supposed to innitiate change in the greek armed forces... == Conscription in Greece ==
150 draftee soldiers have died in the past 10 years in the Greek Armed forces. Greek goverment enforces mandatory draft service, in a time of peace, claiming that Greece is threatened by the enemy from the east (Read: Turkey) continuing an enduring and FUBARed situation ever since the 1950s. Draft soldiers are innadequetly trained, innadequetly paid( €8.7/month for grunts, €11/month for draft saergents], innadequetly fed and housed. Those deaths are due to gross negligence/ignorance/disregard of common safety rules, by COs and NCOs alike, plain gross indifference on the part of the draftees, due to the mandatory/non-proffesional nature of the service (read: ''non-paying''), all in the service of special and local interests in Greece. Please help us [http://www.omhroi.gr/psifisma.html end mandatory draft service] in Greece.
Read more about Conscription and Conscription#Greece, specifically.
==External Links==
"Όμηροι" [http://www.omhroi.gr/index.php?newlang=eng (en)][http://www.omhroi.gr/ (el)] means "hostages" in Greek. The following banner reads that "We are hostages of the draft, the past and of military expenditures". Greece spends USD$6.12 billion (FY99/00 est.) per year on military expenditures, 4.91% percent of the country's Gross domestic product. We spend more money per capita than any other country in the EU. In the Middle East, we are second only to Israel, in military spending.

Lyrics: Nikos Gkatsos
