Politician

A politician is an individual involved in politics. In Western democracy, the term is generally restricted to those involved in election campaigns, rather than members of the state bureaucracy. Such a distinction is less clear in non-democratic forms of government. In a state, individual politicians compose the executive branch of government and the office of Head of State (unless the head of state is a non-political figure, such as a Monarch) as well as the legislative branch, and regional and local levels of government. Other organs of government such as the judicial branch, law enforcement, and the military are not usually regarded as being composed of politicians, despite the fact that the men and women involved do government work. Sometimes political science are also refered to as politicians. The Australian slang term for politicians is pollies. Some common offices for politicians can include: * Congressman * Councillor * Governor * Mayor * Member of Parliament * Political minister * Premier * President * Prime Minister * School board member * Senator Some examples of famous politicians: * Kofi Annan - United Nations Secretary-General * Lazaro Cardenas - President of Mexico * Winston Churchill - wartime Prime Minister of the United Kingdom * Mohandas Gandhi - Nationalist leader of India * Adolf Hitler - Dictator of Germany * Rudy Giuliani - Mayor of New York City * Thomas Jefferson - Founding Father of the United States * Petra Kelly - Founder of the Green Party * Romano Prodi - President of the European Commission * Sun Yat-sen - Kuomintang leader, Revolutionary leader of the Republic of China * Al Gore - Vice President of the United States of America See List of Japanese politicians, List of British politicians, List of New Zealand politicians ==See also== * Corruption * Political entrepreneur * Richest American politicians * Political party ==External link== * [http://politicalgraveyard.com/chrono/by-year.html List of American Politicians by Year Born or Died] Lists of people by occupation Professions su:Politisi

Can the Dali Lama really be considered a politician? Is the pope a politician? user:J.J. 22/07/03 - I think not. I'm removing him from the list. Pharaoh of Egypt is a politican if and only if Dalai Lama of Tibet is a politican! User:Wshun By the way, why don't we have a list of politicans? Isn't it because of political reason? -- User:TakuyaMurata More likely it is because the definition of "politican" maybe too vague. User:Wshun I think this list should only have one of each "kind" of politician. That is to say, one mayor, one president, one PM, one minister, etc. Just to show the diverse range of offices a politician can hold. The list in its present form is in danger of getting longer and longer, as more and more people throw their favorite historical figure in the list. user:J.J. == What's the difference between a politician and a statesman? == Many people will prefer to see Mohandas Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln as statesmen rather than politicians. What makes the difference here? Is this page purposeful? What good is it? User:John Kenney User_talk:John Kenney 08:58, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I reverted your edit at China because the article is on the "cultural and geographic entity" and not the communist state. Please add your info the the article on the People's Republic of China, or perhaps People's Liberation Army instead. Cheers, User:JiangUser talk:Jiang 23:21, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC) ==Too many changes, too soon?== Hi and welcome You are making a huge number of edits to a large number of topics, and in some cases you do not seem to be paying a lot of attention to the (1) exiting structure of the articles and (2) the "talk" page debate about various topics. Please take a little time before making changes to get familiar with the context, especially in the more debated-over articles. Doesn't mean you shouldn't be bold, just realize that a lot of others are working on the same things. --User:Goodoldpolonius2 00:05, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC) == Vested interest? == You are an editor to globalpolitician but you add links to articles there on Wikipedia. To ensure that there is no vested interest here, you might want to check first with others who are interested in the articles you add first and if others find it suitable let ''them'' add the links. Otherwise it may be construed as you using Wikipedia to promote your site. I hope you can understand this. Thanks User:Dysprosia 13:09, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

==Global Politician== No doubt David will eventually put something up here himself but meanwhile, on his behalf: :This is the user page of David Storobin, editor-in-chief of ''[http://www.globalpolitician.com Global Politician]'', a journal that "is intended to be academic and non-biased"; its approach is similar (though not identical) to Wikipedia's NPOV; it has a somewhat higher tolerance of opinion in articles, but does not carry pure opinion pieces. :David has informed several of us of his intent to "donate" certain appropriate texts from ''Global Politician'', appropriately cited, to Wikipedia as starts of articles, additional sections, etc. ''At first glance some of these may look like copyvios'' because they will be word-for-word from ''Global Politician'' beyond fair use, but he has the necessary intellectual property rights, so they are perfectly OK. As with any other material, unless someone is being directly quoted these can then be edited freely in Wikipedia and are liable to diverge over time from ''Global Politician's'' texts. :I've verified that David says he is who he says he is: I left him a message through http://www.globalpolitician.com/contact.asp, and he got back to me with a copy of it. You can look at the [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Politician&action=history history] of the page you are now reading to verify that this edit was, indeed, made by Jmabel, a Wikipedia admin. If for some reason you are hyper-skeptical, you can contact him that way yourself. -- User:Jmabel | User talk:Jmabel 18:52, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)
