The Players Championship was a professional snooker tournament. It is the most recent name of the Snooker world rankings held in Scotland every year. The tournament had a bewildering number of name changes in its history. Until recently it was commonly known as the ''Scottish Open'', prior to that as the ''International''. The tournament started life in 1981 as the ''Jameson International''. The following year, it become a ranking event. Apart from a hiatus from 1990/91 to 1991/92, the tournament remained a ranking event until 2003/04.
