Peerage of Great Britain

The Peerage of Great Britain comprises all extant peerages created in the Kingdom of Great Britain after the Act of Union 1707 but before the Act of Union 1800. The Peerage of Great Britain thus replaced the Peerages of Peerage of England and Peerage of Scotland, until it was itself replaced by the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1801. Until the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999, all Peers of Great Britain could sit in the House of Lords. The ranks of the Great British peerage are Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount and Baron. In the following table of Great British peers, higher or equal titles in the other peerages are listed. ==Dukes in the Peerage of Great Britain==

Peerage of Great Britain

Is there any reason why the Duke of Portland (1716) is not listed? --User:80.1.241.104 22:03, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC) :The last Duke of Portland died in 1990, and the title is extinct. Some of his lesser titles were inherited by a distant relative, who is now the Earl of Portland. User:Proteus 23:31, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC) ::Where are extinct peerages being listed then? I just ran across the new article Viscount Sackville which also isn't listed here. The introduction to this page seems to say that it should include all peerages created between that set of years mentioned. User:Rmhermen 13:57, Jul 3, 2004 (UTC) :::List of Dukedoms, List of Marquessates, List of Earldoms, List of Viscountcies and List of Baronies list both extinct and extant titles. (The lower grades probably aren't entirely complete, mainly because there have been more of them.) User:Proteus User_talk:Proteus 20:51, 3 Jul 2004 (UTC) ::::Then this page (and the related ones should clearly state that extinct titles are not on the list. As it is it starts by saying the "the peerage of Great Britain includes all titles..." which may be true but is not what the list contains. User:Rmhermen 00:26, Jul 4, 2004 (UTC)
