ParityParity is a concept of equality of status or functional equivalence. It has several different specific definitions. * parity (physics): In physics, particles have a quantum mechanics property of parity. * parity (mathematics): In mathematics, parity indicates whether a number contains an even or odd number of bits. If a number contains an even number of bits, it is said to have ''even parity'', otherwise it has ''odd parity''. In a computer memory, the parity of a number is often stored as an extra bit to verify the reliability of the memory. * parity (telecommunication): In this usage, the number of '1' bits in the binary value is counted. Parity is even if there are an even number of '1' bits, and odd otherwise. * In medicine, parity is defined as the number of pregnancies that a woman delivers past 24 weeks. A grandmultiparous woman is a woman who has delivered four or more infants who have achieved a gestational age of 24 weeks or more. ParityParity Bit, sometimes Odd, sometimes Even, sometimes Space, sometimes Mark, and sometimes None. I fixed a few typos on random pages and started the tin whistle topic. Not that I play the whistle or anything, or would admit it if I did. I added the high school page with a kind of sketchy outline, because it was wanted by something else and it seemed silly not to have it. Somebody should fill it in. ParityDoes anybody have anything to say to me? I didn't think so. Have a good day. :) I think that I might have a couple words to say, like maybee: Howdy-do? ''and'' Welcome, newcomers to the 'pedia! ''how about'' Hope you like the place and decide to wikipedians. ''and finally'' Cheers! --user:maveric149 Hi, Maveric! I'm sure I'll at least stay enough to tweak my tin whistle page from time to time. Maybe I'll take a photo of some of my whistles this weekend and add the pictures. Err, not that I actually play them, they're, uh, decorative, that's it. Yeah, that's the ticket. :) Parity Odd PS: Anybody reading this page should go fill in high school, I'm not dedicated to that one. :) Parity"Parity is deciding whether something is even or odd." So parity is a verb? Or is it a person with a rather odd occupation? No pun intended. It has many meanings but in this article I think it is being used as a noun describing the even-ness or odd-ness of a number. IE: "The quantum-mechanical selection rule states that parity must change from odd to even or from even to odd." User:Rlee0001 16:57 Oct 19, 2002 (UTC) : the article is really confused. parity is not about whether a number is even or odd, but about whether the sum of all the bits is even or odd. In binary, the following number is odd parity even though it is an even number: 00001110; and this number is even parity even though it is an odd number: 00110011.
