Oki Islands

Oki (隠岐) is the name of a group of islands (隠岐諸島 ''Oki shotō'') in the Sea of Japan, 40 to 80 km from the coast of Honshu. They are part of Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Prior to the establishment of the Prefectures of Japan, they comprised Oki Province. The present-day Oki District, Shimane encompasses these islands. The islands include Okinoshima, Nakanoshima, Nishinoshima, and Chiburijima. Oki Airport (OKI), a Class III facility with a 1500 Metre runway, is in Saigo, Shimane, the most populous town on these islands. It provides air service to Osaka International Airport ("Itami", ITM) and Izumo Airport (IZO). On October 1, 2004, Saigo and the villages of Fuse, Shimane, Goka, Shimane and Tsuma, Shimane were administratively merged into the town of Okinoshima, Shimane. Both Emperor Go-Toba of Japan and Emperor Go-Daigo of Japan were exiled to Oki. Islands of Japan
