Founded in 1967 as an affiliate of Laurentian University, Nipissing became an independent institution in 1992. The university's unique character is defined by its location in Northern Ontario, a large faculty of education program with 25 percent of the total student enrollment, and shared facilities with Canadore College. Nipissing offers a variety of programs in the arts, sciences, business, and education. The university has a full-time enrollment of 1,985 students.
