Nick Boalch
School of Modern Languages & Cultures
University of Durham http://www.durham.ac.uk/n.g.boalch/ I have been contributing to the Wikipedia since January 2003, although my contributions have been light until late 2004. I am particularly interested in adding and developing content on film, television, theatre and other visual culture from Spain, Catalonia and the Spanish language-speaking countries of Latin America, but I tend to poke my nose into various things that look interesting or where there's a good discussion brewing. I am a participant in various projects including Wikipedia:Spanish Translation of the Week, Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket and Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias. The two things I do most frequently on the Wikipedia (my primary means of procrastination, in fact!) are ensuring that Current sports events is kept up to date with cricket-related content and wikifying Special:Newpages: I find a particular satisfaction in copyediting these pages so that, even if they don't contain much information, at least they look like part of the 'pedia!

== Paloma Pedrero == You did some extensive work on the Paloma Pedrero article. I am trying to disambiguate the link to "director". Can you please check that I disambiguated correctly to theatre director (as opposed to film director or television director)? Thanks. User:Rossami 23:08, 17 Feb 2004 (UTC) :Yes, theatre director is correct. Thanks! User:Ngb 16:24 07 Nov 2004 (GMT) == Cut and paste / Naming conventions == You appear to have done a cut-and-paste move from The Basque Ball to La pelota vasca. Is this accurate? If so: #Why have you moved a work with a well-known English-language title to a foreign-language title? Doesn't that go against Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Use_English_words? #I can't imagine any reason for a cut-and-paste move, which separates the history from the article. For now, I will try to remedy the cut-and-paste move; I actually think the article should be back at the old title, but I don't want an edit war over this. User:Jmabel | User talk:Jmabel 18:54, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC) The cut-and-paste rather than move was a mistake rather than an intention -- I'd overlooked the functionality the system provides for moving pages. So thanks for fixing that; it certainly wasn't my intention to orphan the page's history. As to the location of the page, I have deliberately gone against the Wikipedia:Naming conventions in this case for a specific reason: uniformity of titling within the work of one Director. Not all of Julio Medem's films are widely known to English speakers (only La pelota vasca and Lucía y el sexo are widely recognised, I would say), so it makes sense to leave his earlier films with their original Spanish titles. But I think it's then confusing if the later films are indexed under English titles. So what I've done is to have all the articles for Medem's films under the foreign-language title, with the English-language title or equivalent redirected to the foreign-language article. This way, hopefully, everyone's happy: there's consistency in the way the articles are titled, and the article can be accessed (and searched for) under both an English and a Spanish title. --User:Ngb 21:46, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC) :(I should say, additionally, on the naming issue, that I personally do not agree with the Wikipedia policy on this: I think texts such as novels, films and so on should be titled as they were originally, with English-language versions linked to the original. But I accept that that's what the policy is, and I wouldn't go against it without good reason; but I do think that's what there is in this case. --User:Ngb 22:52, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC) == Image:Pedrero.png == Hi! Thanks for uploading :Image:Pedrero.png. I notice it currently doesn't have an Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use if you release it under the GFDL, or if you claim Wikipedia:Fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, – User:Quadell (User_talk:Quadell) (User:Quadell/Request for assistance) 12:42, Dec 29, 2004 (UTC) :Ugh. I can't actually remember where I got it from now. :( It may be wisest to delete it, and I will try to find another source with verifiable licensing? --User:Ngb 19:28, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC) == Second city == Do you think you could possibly sort out your differences with other users on the article's talk page, rather than constantly reverting everyone else's edits? I have no opinion on the matter myself, just noticing the beginnings of a revert war. -- User:Francs2000 | User talk:Francs2000 19:19, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC) :Sorry just noticed that you had prompted a discussion on the talk page. Many apologies. -- User:Francs2000 | User talk:Francs2000 19:21, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC) ::No problem! --User:Ngb 19:28, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC) == Wikipedia:Spanish Translation of the Week == I would like to revive Spanish Translation of the Week. Are you interested in working on it? — User:J3ff 05:59, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC) :Yes, I really am. I'm sorry that other things sapped my attention from it before. --User:Ngb 09:09, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC) == Cricket == Hi. You commented on the move of the cricket portal to cricket. Having moved the whole affair back, I have made my own proposal. Could you come and comment, so that we can get consensus for the best version. Cheers, User:Smoddy User talk:Smoddy 19:59, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC) *I have made a proposal to create a Wikipedia:WikiReader for cricket. Perhaps you could comment at User:Smoddy/WikiReader Cricket on my suggested content. Cheers, User:Smoddy User talk:Smoddy 16:21, 14 May 2005 (UTC) == Federico García Lorca == You ask (somewhat rudely) in your edit summary for your recent edit to Federico García Lorca, 'What is this with people continually removing citations?'. If you look at the previous edit it was far from obvious that this link was a citation -- it was simply included in the middle of the page with the link text 'Democratic Development and Reckoning with the Past: The Case of Spain in Comparative Context'. That's why I removed it. Now that you've actually made it *look* like a citation instead of an external link in an inappropriate place I have no problem with it. --User:Ngb 08:09, 14 May 2005 (UTC) * If you look at the editing sequence, the editor before you turned a perfectly good citation into the atrocity you deleted. I then restored the version of about 24 hours earlier. -- User:Jmabel | User talk:Jmabel 20:56, May 14, 2005 (UTC) == Los amantes del círculo polar == Hi. You recently moved the page Los amantes del círculo polar to Los Amantes del Círculo Polar. This is incorrect nomenclature as titles in Spanish are not capitalised on any letter other than the first (note that the IMDB, which may be your source, gets this wrong too). I thought as you were an administrator I would ask you first to move it back to Los amantes del círculo polar rather than listing it on Wikipedia:Requested moves. --User:Ngb 16:42, 31 May 2005 (UTC) :Sorry about that. I've moved it back. Note that you could have undone the move yourself; being an administrator wasn't necessary. User:Dbenbenn | User talk:Dbenbenn 19:12, 31 May 2005 (UTC) ::Great, thanks! I thought I couldn't move a page to somewhere where another page existed already, even if it was only a redirect, but obviously I was wrong about that. :) --User:Ngb 21:46, 31 May 2005 (UTC) ==Olvera Streeet image== Hello. I'm not sure if you are aware of it or not but your image of Olvera Street could soon be deleted. -User:AfC 00:54, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC) :Thanks for letting me know about the possible deletion of :Image:Olvera_st_los_angeles.jpg. Unfortunately I am not prepared to relicense the image for unrestricted commercial use, so it looks like it will end up being deleted. --User:Ngb 08:55, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC) ==SpaTra==
