New user log

Hi, and Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers to Wikipedia! If you're new to our community, drop us a note here and tell us a little bit about yourself. Most importantly, we would like to know about your interests (for which we have a Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by fields of interest), your areas of knowledge, and the sorts of things you'd like to work on here at Wikipedia. That makes it easier for us to help you start Wikipedia:How to edit. We'd also appreciate it if you told us how you found out about Wikipedia. :: To add yourself to the list: ::* [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Wikipedia:New_user_log&action=edit§ion=new post a comment], ::* enter your name as the subject/headline (which will make a new header for you in the log), and ::* sign your name at the end of your comment by typing four tildes: ~~~~. (This code makes a link to your user page, which readers can use to welcome you personally if they like). ::Your comments will then be added to the bottom of the list. You may also like to add yourself to Wikipedia:Wikipedians, such as the Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians in order of arrival, Wikipedia:Wikipedians#Listing by country, or Wikipedia:Wikipedians#Skills-based listings (such as translation or photography). Finally, if you want a little personal assistance in using or contributing to the site, you might go through one of the Wikipedia:Bootcamps. I've been a registered member for some time, but I'm just now getting around to learning how to edit. I found Wikipedia while researching using Google. I'm a Francophile so I would like to edit pages about French history, geography, society, etc. I've come across a number of stubs in that area. I have a pretty good reading knowledge of French. I keep up with current events in France by reading articles on web sites like Libération and listening to Radio France. I like photography. I see a lot of good photos of locations in France on http://Flickr.com that aren't identified well, and I found myself doing Wiki-like editing in comment boxes there and even started keeping a scrapbook of Paris photos on my [http://homepage.mac.com/osbornb/ home page]. Many of the photos on [http://Flickr.com/ Flickr] are licensed under [http://creativecommons.org/ Creative Commons]. I noticed today for the first time that there is a Commons area here. I also enjoy podcasts, and the whole issue of ''podsafe'' music and other content is interesting to me. I'm a Macintosh enthusiast also. I was a medical transcriptionist for twenty years, but got outsourced recently, so I have lots of time to explore Wickipedia. ::::Thanks! ::::User:Osbornb 23:52, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC) == New user == Hi, My name is Milena, I'm 26 years old and I'm from Brazil. I started looking for information on Wikipedia, after my boyfriend told me about it, and a few days ago, I decided to join the team. My English is not good enough, but I really wish to contribute. See you all around, --User:Milena Popovic 10:25, Jun 3, 2005 (UTC) == Plagiarist == I forget where or even when I found the site. I have a reasonable knowledge of computers, physics, role-playing games, and bad cartoons. My spelling however is appalling. Having had a look around after signing up I now have the distinct impression that this site already knows a lot more about those subjects than me. Still, i will hopefully spot some tiny inaccuracy one day and feel a warm glow as I correct it. User:Plagiarist 16:21, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Phroziac == Hi! I've been using Wikipedia a week or two at the most (Or was that just a few days? meh), and signed up the other day. I am mostly interested in offroad radio control, real offroading, leathercraft, and "stuff". I excellent grammarticl and spellng skllz. I'm from Michigan, USA. User:Phroziac 18:09, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Artistopia == Hello All, My main interest is the world of music, more specifically how to help upcoming indie and unsigned artists. I have found Wikipedia to be such an outstanding and useful place on the net to find information, I finally decided to jump into the fray - and perhaps be of assistance here and there in this editing process. [http://www.artistopia.com Artistopia - Music Artist Resource] is my home on the Internet, but I am a resident of Virginia. The tutorials are quite helpful! It does take a bit to get the hang of it. So I look forward to rubbing elbows with you all and absorbing this great sea of knowledge... User:Artistopia 15:00, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)Yippee == Balletgirl313 == Hi. I joined Wikipedia last night. I had had some experience prior to last night; I've use Wikipedia for school projects and the like. Only last night did I realize that this was a community run thing, and that you could edit it yourself. I'm excited to help on this wonderful endeavor. I have a good bit of knowledge of the WASP of WWII, and so I know a little aviation. I'm a dancer, and I speak a little French. Based on my lack of education (I'm only in highschool), however, I'm mostly interested in clerical work; editing, spellchecking, etc. User:Balletgirl313 20:00, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC) == Mason Barge == Hi. My name is Mason Barge and I live in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. I'm in my mid-50's. I was an English major in college, after which I went to law school and worked most of my life as a civil rights litigator. I retired a few years ago and now trade securities full-time. I served as a translator in the Vietnam War in 1971. I'm happily married but have no children. My interests include law, finance, religion, language, history, literature, opera and classical music, gardening, Cole Porter, and whatever else I find interesting from moment to moment. In other words, my functioning brain cell has a short attention span. Right now I'm interested in black female singers in the 1940's-1950's. I think the Wikipedia is the cat's pajamas and I'm sure I'll be contributing. User:68.166.22.39 12:25, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Amy == I found this website through my boyfriend initially - they do have some uses! - and since then I've harly stopped searching for information on it! I've been busy with various mid-Tudor pages, adding bits and pieces. User:84.66.243.126 13:00, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC). == Supernova == Hi. I recently joined wikipedia. I use wikipedia for just about anything i ever want to learn and I want to help contribute to the site that provides me with all the info that i ever wanted to know. User:Supernova490 01:17, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC) Hi, newbie here. Got my first vfd on my first day - trying not to take it personally though. Sure i'll learn how things work. Anyway, see you around.--User:Nella-mair 18:51, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC) == HighHopes == Have joined but not yet clued up at all. Have made some edits but there's a lot yet to learn (especially all the jargo and technical trickery - I'm not particularly computer-literate). Main interests would include 70s music, British and American politics (especially elections) and comedy, but there seems little left to contribute to the English Wikipedia in these respects! Maybe I should learn Gaelic and work on that one... --User:HighHopes User_talk:HighHopes 19:04, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC) Further to that, I made a number of anonymous edits before getting this account. I also saw recently that's it's possible to reassign anonymous edits, but I can't find the article that mentions how to do this. Does anyone know? Thank you very much! --User:HighHopes User_talk:HighHopes 19:56, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Hi, I'm new. == hi User:Matteo2000 19:25, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC) == C'est moi: Lady~Macbeth == Hi. :) I found Wikipedia through a google search a few months ago, and I loved the idea and wanted to help. I don't have any areas of expertise, so I suspect I'll only be useful for copyediting, but I'll try to help with anything that doesn't require lots of technical knowledge. User:Lady~Macbeth 02:16, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC) == chuckm792 == Hello. I am in Washington State and stumbled on this site while looking for information about Neal Stephenson. A few months later I was doing some research for my work (for a newsstand), and found it to be quite informative. I have recently been amusing myself with the "Random Page" generator. As to my usefulness to Wikipedia? Unsure... User:Chuckm792 06:10, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Ytgy111 == My name's Taylor. I've just joined the WikiProject Adelaide. I used to use an IP address to edit but I've finally registered with a username. My hobbies include web design and browsing the wikipedia. I enjoy flash animations such as Homestar Runner and Weebl and Bob. I live in South Australia. == Tryasyoumay == hi. i'm a new user, and i'm making it known. my interests (with regards to expanding wiki pages) are mostly the musicians i like that don't have very extensive pages. mainly i signed up so i could put images up, but also this seems like fun. so yeah. awesomesauce! User:Tryasyoumay 20:12, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC) == x736e65616b (aka sneak) == 'ello. i've been a long-time fan of wikipedia but just finally got around to making an account. --User:X736e65616b 22:48, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Bergsten == Hi! My name is Jonas Bergsten, I'm a programmer living in Sweden. My interests most relevant to Wikipedia include Computer Science and photography. I have been using Wikipedia for a while and started editing when I found some incorrect Java-code that I wanted to correct. My contributions will probably consist of some material to articles, but as I'm a pretty slow writer, but faster in other areas like administration and coding, I will probably be more useful adding categories to images or some sort of other technical tasks. But as I'm still new to this I don't know what it would be yet. Looking further forward in time, if I'm still active here (which seems likely). I guess I could be interested in building administrative tools or write some other kind of code if there is a need for that. And last but not least, a big part of my contribution will probably be photos that I have taken. User:Bergsten 23:48, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Drakoniis == I've used Wikipedia for years (and made a few unlisted contributions to the Black metal page when it was in its early stages) but never really got around to getting an account. I'm currently attending a DigiPen game design school, and my interests include game design, music (listening, performance, composition), art (both digital non-digital), and I used to be interested in linguistics (mainly east-asian languages... not much anymore, no time now). User:Drakoniis 20:37, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC) == flgook == Hi, my name is Nik, and I am a college student in Florida, and I am Asian. (hence the username). I currently am majoring in Business Marketing and e-Business Management. I work at a Hollister and enjoy running, working out, and reading. I hope to get to work a lot with the wikis as time permits. User:Flgook 18:26, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Bill-on-the-Hill == Greetings from Los Alamos, New Mexico. I'm a nuclear physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, but all of my articles here are submitted as a private citizen, not a lab employee. 52 years old, married with two sons. My recreational passions are hiking and backpacking (which has a lot to do with the things I contribute here), classical music, and competitive just-about-everything. If you happen to frequent the Internet Chess Club, drop me a message there -- my handle is MeisterZinger and I run the "TriviaBot" trivia contests, for which I get lots of inspiration from Wikipedia articles! I'd be happy to see your messages there as an indication of the cross-pollination between that virtual world and this one. User:Bill-on-the-Hill 02:14, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Eweisser == Hi, I'm 19 and from St. Louis, Missouri. I've been using Wikipedia for a couple years now, but just started editing a few months ago. I'm very interested in linguistics, and would like to work on articles about several languages, but for now am contributing to historic United States Congress articles, at least until I learn the ropes. I'd be eager to help with anything else I can, however. I think that this is a really cool project and I would really like to get involved. Some of areas of knowledge are video games, Star Wars, and books. For some of the pages that I have worked on, see my User:GCNrocks223, and feel free to leave me a message on my User talk:GCNrocks223. I can hardly wait to get started, and I hope that I can be a help. User:GCNrocks223 00:34, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC) ==Chad S. Wrye== Hey, everyone! I've actually been editing for a couple of weeks so far, but I thought that I would sign on to the log as well. It's been great, and I'm looking forward to making some contributions. I hope that I can add some helpfull information to the site. See my user page for some other information about me. User:Chad S. I hope to get active in over a month or so. I myself have interest in and knowledge of history, english, psychology, sociology, education and communication. Greetings, --User:NDKhan 00:07, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC) N.D. Khan == Someone with a random name, x42bn6? == It is NOT random, though I cannot remember what it means. Anyway, I am x42bn6, with no capital letter at the start! I cannot remember what it means (as I said above) nor of its origins. If anyone knows, please tell me. It's one of life's greatest mysteries. -.-; My full real name is Jason Ta-Liang Lim. I am a British Chinese (deduce from name), and my Chinese name means big and generous. I am a skinny, underweight student (I can never seem to gain weight), and I am a very cheap person. Sheesh. I use the name x42bn6 for everything, for Hotmail, Gmail, and for most of the forums I go to. Most of my time spent online is at a forum which I doubt is an idea to post here lest I get admonished for advertising. In any case, I've spent nearly 3 years of active posting there, and I hope to do so at Wikipedia. I'm currenly a Year 12 student at a Sixth Form in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, studying Chemistry, Physics, Computing and Further Mathematics. I have done my Advanced Subsidary examinations and I am starting my full Advanced Level courses. I am naturally gifted with numerical skills. I also enjoy writing and computer graphics design. I would like to do some computer music work because I can play the piano by ear. I can't read music scoresheets though. :( I don't know much general knowledge, so my contributions to Wikipedia may be limited. However, I do know a lot of common grammar mistakes (not through experience!) and I have issues with American English. As far as I am concerned, America is at the edge of the Earth where all the sea monsters swallow up ships. ... Ignore that last sentence. I hope that I can become an active Wikipedia member, and get to know a lot of you. --User:X42bn6 07:55, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC) ==SlonDFW== Hello, I'm a 23-year-old male college student from Fort Worth, Texas. I am a follower of Sanjan, a small belief system for which there has been much growing support in Southern California, and even beyond. I have attempted to give Sanjan its due acknowlegement for those who are interested to learn about it, but have met resistence by many Wikipedians. I believe this is due to prejudice. Show your support for Sanjan on the anti-deletion page. Forever looking skyward, B. McFarlane "First there was Orange, then there was Blue, then Red." -S.W.M. == magicmonster == I've been using Wikipedia for about a month now for general browsing and have finally decided to become a user and try to participate in the whole process of it. I first came across Wikipedia two or three years ago while doing online research for work (I document photographs for an architecture research institute). I'm interested in a whole mess of things, but I have some expertise in political movements and figures, the history of liberation struggles, media analysis, art history and 19th century photography. New user log

We'll have to see if people actually use this. I'm highly tempted to "seed" it with a phony entry just so somebody doesn't have to be the first newcomer to sign. It might take a while before someone signs, but once there's one I figure others will be comfortable doing so. To see why I created this page, check out my comment on Wikipedia talk:Welcoming committee User:Isomorphic 01:43, 17 Feb 2004 (UTC) :Well, unless someone's gone ahead and seeded it, I'd say you've got a success here. What a nice idea! User:IMSoP 03:22, 19 Feb 2004 (UTC) ==Page title== I think the title is a bit misleading - I thought this "log" would be an auto-generated list or something. Some namechange thoughts: * recent visitors (matches Wiki:RecentVisitors, for example) * Wikipedia guestbook (matches the "guestbooks" of bad geocities pages) * Umm... Make sense? User:MyRedDice 22:29, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC) ::Martin, I agree that the name needs changing....I've been thinking of it for a bit. I think something a little more personable and friendly would be good: Wikipedia:Introductions or Wikipedia:Meet me or something like that. Recent visitors also sounds like an auto-generated log to me, and guestbook, well, reminds me of bad Geocities pages. ;-) I think a name change would be wise, though. Let's keep brainstorming. User:Jwrosenzweig 23:37, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC) :The original name was mine, and I agree that it's bad. It's just the first half-decent thing that came to my mind when I decide to create the page. I didn't like "guestbook" for the reasons above, and because this wasn't intended for guests or visitors all. It's intended for people who are starting to contribute, and that's {mostly) what people have been using it for. Of the suggestions above, I like Wikipedia:Introductions best, but I feel like there must be something better. I can't think of anything though. User:Isomorphic 06:06, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC) :I like Wikipedia:Introductions as well. The log should be for something automatic. User:Dori | User talk:Dori 07:05, Mar 31, 2004 (UTC) : I think Wikipedia:Introductions sounds the best from all the suggested changes. Just a note... many users (such as myself) have welcoming templates that point to this page, so a Special:What links here run to let people know it's being changed would be appreciated (as would keeping this as a redirect to the new page). I'm sure this has been thought of before, but I just wanted to put it down as a reminder. Thanks! -- User:Jrdioko 23:43, Apr 11, 2004 (UTC) Wikipedia:Introductions sounds like some sort of dating service. I'd prefer Wikipedia:recent visitors, or if the only problem with the current name is that it sounds too much like an automatically generated log, why not just call it wikipedia:new users instead of wikipedia:new user log? User:Angelauser talk:Angela 17:00, Apr 13, 2004 (UTC) :The only problem with "recent visitors" is that it sounds like a guestbook. Actually if we wanted we could also create a true guestbook where readers could leave general comments like "wow I like your project". In the mean time, Wikipedia:New users still sounds a little like an automated page (Wikipedia:New pages certainly is one) but it's better than the current name. User:Isomorphic 20:46, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC) How about something less official sounding like; Wikipedia:who's new or Wikipedia:Nursery ? Or potting shed, pleased to meet you, etc. Or Wikipedia:Gestatten (which, in German, packs "Pleased to meet you, please allow me to introduce myself" into one word.) User:Marvin Sunday 07:14, 8 Sep 2004 (UTC) :Nursery and Gestatten don't immediately convey what the page is for though, which is a problem. I would prefer Wikipedia:New Users, simple and obvious. User:TPK 08:02, 8 Sep 2004 (UTC) == Thanks - But no thanks! == It works just fine for me, I think that things are good good the way they are. I've only used the page a couple times and I was just getting used to it being here. I don't want things to change much. Just registering the voice of a new user. --User:Noisecontrol 12:00, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC) == Irc for new users == New users should consider visiting irc.freenode.com room:wikipedia.
