National Register of Historic Places

The National Register of Historic Places is the United States's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects worthy of preservation. As of 2004, the list includes approximately 78,000 entries, including all National Historic Landmarks and other icons of American culture, history, engineering, and architecture. Administered by the National Park Service, the Register was authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Its goals are to coordinate and help groups such as the National Trust for Historic Preservation identify and protect U. S. historic sites. ==Bibliography== *''National Register of Historic Places'', National Park Service; ISBN 0471144037; John Wiley 1994. ==Places in the registry== ===Alabama=== *Dauphin Island, Alabama **Sand Island Lighthouse ===Alaska=== *Cordova, Alaska (50 miles from) **Million Dollar Bridge *Point Barrow **Crash site of Wiley Post and Will Rogers ===Arizona=== *Camp Verde, Arizona **Fort Verde State Historic Park ===Arkansas=== *Arkansas City, Arkansas **The law office of Xenophon Overton Pindall *Arkansas Post, Arkansas **Arkansas Post National Memorial *Conway, Arkansas **Three buildings of Hendrix College *Conway County, Arkansas **Buildings of the Petit Jean State Park *Eureka Springs, Arkansas (entire town) *Little Rock, Arkansas **Mount Holly Cemetery *Lonoke County, Arkansas **Camp Nelson Confederate Cemetery *Washington, Arkansas **Old Washington Historic State Park ===California=== *Belmont, California **Ralston Hall - a historic mansion *Berkeley, California - University of California, Berkeley **Durant Hall, original building for Boalt Hall School of Law **Sather Gate and Bridge **Sather Tower **Bowles Hall *Berkeley, California - Tilden Park **Tilden Park Merry-Go-Round *Chico, California **Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park *Locke, California a town built completely "by the Chinese for the Chinese" *Los Angeles, California **Pan-Pacific Auditorium (destroyed in fire) *Los Angeles County, California **Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park *Pasadena, California **Batchelder House *Ridge Route California's first motor vehicle highway linking the Los Angeles Basin with the San Joaquin Valley *San Jose, California **San Jose's first post office, now the San Jose Museum of Art *Torrance, California **Torrance High School ===Colorado=== ===Connecticut=== *Falkner Island **Falkner Island lighthouse ===Delaware=== ===Washington, DC=== [[Image:basilicaofthenationalshrine.jpg|thumb|250px|The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.]] *Washington, DC **Alban Towers **Anacostia **Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception **Dupont Circle **Eastern Market, Washington, DC **Foggy Bottom **Ford's Theater **Georgetown, Washington, DC **Georgetown University **Jefferson Memorial **Library of Congress **Lincoln Memorial **National Archives and Records Administration **Washington National Cathedral **Smithsonian National Zoological Park **Union Station (Washington, DC) **United States Capitol **Supreme Court of the United States **Washington National Cathedral ===Florida=== *Fort Zachary Taylor, Key West *Lightner Museum, St. Augustine, Florida *South Beach, Miami Beach *Tampa Theatre, Tampa, FL *Venetian Pool, Coral Gables ===Georgia (U.S. state)=== *Cedartown, Georgia (Main Street) *Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, GA *Inman Park neighborhood in Atlanta *West End (Atlanta) neighborhood in Atlanta ===Hawaii=== *Aliiolani Hale *Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew *Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace *Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet Headquarters *Cook Landing Site *Falls of Clyde *Ford Island *Hickam Field *Hokukano-Ualapue Complex *Honokohau Settlement *Huilua Fishpond *Iolani Palace *Father Damien *Kamakahonu *Kaneohe Naval Air Station *Kaunolu Village Site *Kawaiahao Church *Keauhou Holua Slide *Lahaina Historic District *Loaloa Heiau *Mauna Loa Adz Quarry *Moana Hotel *Mookini Heiau *National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific *Old Sugar Mill of Koloa *Opana Radar Site *Palm Circle *Pearl Harbor Naval Base *Piilanihale Heiau *Pu'u O Mahuka Heiau *Puukohola Heiau *Russian Fort *Royal Hawaiian Hotel *South Point Complex *USS Arizona Memorial *USS Bowfin *USS Missouri (BB-63) *USS Utah *Waialua Complex of Heiaus *Washington Place *Wheeler Field ===Idaho=== ===Illinois=== ===Indiana=== *Indianapolis **Slippery Noodle Inn ===Iowa=== *Ames, Iowa **ISU notables#Agriculture Hall **ISU notables#Alumni Hall **Ames High School **Bandshell Park Historic District **Budd, Prof, J.L., Sarah M., and Etta Budd, House **Christian Petersen Courtyard Sculptures, and Dairy Industry Building **ISU notables#Engineering Hall **Knapp-Wilson House **MacDonald, Gilmour B. and Edith Craig, House **ISU notables#Marston Water Tower **ISU notables#Morrill Hall **Municipal Building **Old Town Historic District (between Duff & Clark Avenues and 7th & 9th streets) **Skunk River Bridge (255th street over Skunk River) *Des Moines, Iowa **Abraham Lincoln High School **Ainsworth, William W. and Elizabeth J., House **Andrews, Josiah, House **Ashby Manor Historic District **Ayrshire Apartments **Bailey, William H. and Alice, House **Baker, C.
