ModelModel may refer to more than one thing : *For models in society, art, fashion, and cosmetics, see; **role model **model (person) **supermodel **figure drawing modeling section *In science and technology, a model (abstract) is understood as an abstract or theoretical representation of a phenomenon, see; **geologic modeling **model (economics) **model (macroeconomics) **statistical model **mathematical model **model organism *For modeling in software design see software modeling. *In mathematics, particularly in set theory, a model is some concrete realization of a set of axioms (in a sense this is the ''opposite'' of the previous definition). See model theory. *In cognitive psychology a mental model is an explanation of a thought process. See knowledge representation. *In science, technology, and leisure for models as physical representations see model (physical). Similitude (model) is testing criteria of a model to insure that results are applicable to the real thing. *In Engineering, a solid model may refer to 3D CAD representation, see solid modelling. *A scale model is a replication or prototype of an object built either for research or as a hobby, usually built smaller than the existing or intended thing, though can equally be built larger to illustrate something that would otherwise be hard to see. Plastic models are very common for hobbyists. * In neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) modelling refers to the systematic unpacking and sequencing of the conscious and unconscious processes. See modeling (NLP). *In world politics, MODEL refers to the ''Movement for Democracy in Liberia'' organization. *In video games or computer modelling, a model (game) is a fully-3D computer graphics, polygonal object or character. *In automobiles, a model is a type of vehicle sold under a marque ==See also== *The Australian rock band The Models. *The World War 2 Germany General, Walther Model. ModelShouldn't the picture really be at the ''bottom'' of the page. After all, this is a physical model, and the article is mainly about conceptual models in science. User:CSTAR 19:39, 30 May 2004 (UTC) :I'm a bit biased, because I took the pic, but physical models are fully mentioned at the start of the article so I see no reason to move the pic. Here are the mentions of a physical model in just the first two paragraphs....... (I've added the italics) :PARAGRAPH 1 :The word model is used in various contexts meaning an abstract or ''physical'' representation of some thing. That thing may be a ''single item or object (for example, a bolt)'', a large system (for example, the Solar System), or even a time series such as that corresponding to stock market prices. In general, a model has no intrinsic interest, but rather it allows us to simulate or to infer something about the thing it represents. :PARAGRAPH 2 :In many cases a model is a theoretical construct that represents social or physical processes by a set of variables and a set of logical and quantitative relationships between them. Models in this sense are constructed to reason within a idealized logical framework about these processes. ''In other cases a model is a physical object such as an architectural model of a projected building or an existing one. In the case of a projected building, one possible purpose of the model is to facilitate visualization of internal relationships within the structure or external relationships of the structure to the environment. For the model of an existing building, possible purposes of the model might be visualization of renovation plans for a contractor or determination of placement of explosives for a demolition team planning on blowing it up.'' :All of the italicised stuff is talking about a physical model so why would you want to move the pic? :User:Arpingstone 21:03, 30 May 2004 (UTC) Granted, but there is no corresponding graphical representation of a conceptual model that I can think of (how would one even represent such a conceptual model). The placement of the graphic at the top of the article seems to give the wrong impression of the point of the article. BTW a model of a bolt doesn't have to be a physical model. Perhaps the article should be split up.User:CSTAR 21:11, 30 May 2004 (UTC) == NLP disambiguation == Do we really need two ''very long'' sentences describing NLP in a disambiguation page?
