MinghongHi Minghong, Andre">User:Andrevan (User_talk:Andrevan)A 21:45, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC) == Type ??? == The ECMA specification states quite plainly that 'An object is a member of the type Object'. My current experiences with JS indicate that a thorough understanding of the relationship between the terms ''Type'', ''Primitive'' and ''Object'' is indispensible once you start to build an OE application with it. -- User:Tolken. Failure to understand the nature of typing in JS is a major reason for buggy applications... == Eh? == Say what? "JavaScript is NOT Javascript". In what way? - User:Ta bu shi da yu 13:01, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC) :JavaScript is NOT Javascript. (Still can't see the difference? It is an uppercase "S".) - User:minghong 13:07, 15 Dec 2004 == OS-tan pictures == *Hi! I noticed that you uploaded :Image:Outlook-tan.png, :Image:Firefox-tan.png, and :Image:Thunderbird-tan.png. As part of the Wikipedia:Untagged images, I am trying to determine the copyright situation of those pictures. I would appreciate it if you could tell me where you got them and any copyright information that you might know. Thank you for your help. User:JoshG 10:11, Jan 4, 2005 (UTC) **The images of Firefox-ko and Thunderbird-ko (edited and uploaded by me) were obtained from [http://cornervalley.net/rnote.php?u=illust/cg/040829.htm] and [http://cornervalley.net/rnote.php?u=illust/cg/040901.htm] respectively. I don't understand Japanese. But from the translation by Altavista, it should be ok to use them as long as it is not for profit: "And clearly writing the fact that they are processed ones, it can release and can distribute those which reprinting, it distributed and processed only non profit-making purpose. The writer (the ろ or the ろ) it is not necessary to state name. It is not possible without obtaining my permission, to use those which it processed for profit-making purpose. Those which it processed the writer (the ろ or the ろ) it is not possible with name to release and to distribute and." .I'm sorry but I can't find the source of Outlook one now. - User:minghong 12:09, 6 Jan 2004 == Internet Explorer Article == Your recent edits to the IE page have neatened it up a lot, and the article is looking in good shape these days. Keep up the good work --User:Beachy 13:51, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC) : Well... I'm just trying to improve the quality of the page: something that every Wikipedian should do. That doesn't mean I'm a pro-IE guy. So you can see I also put lots of "negative" stuffs about IE. ;-) - User:Minghong 13:56, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC) :: I never suggested you were pro-IE ;-) User:Beachy 14:58, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC) == Infobox Software Template == Please watch what you are doing. Your removal of the caption attribute has left the box with "{}". If you want to fix that, change the template and all the instances where the caption variable is used, though since this is a major change, I'd raise it on the template talk page first. User:Dysprosia 23:23, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC) : Nah? After removing the caption attribute, I've edited all the pages that uses the Infobox Software template. Also, I'm the one who raised it on the template talk page. I've also User talk:Ed g2s. Probably someone reverted my edits again. Maybe you should check the page history before complaining to me... User:Minghong 08:37, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC) :: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mozilla_Firefox&oldid=9625770 Yah]. :: Anyway, I think because you changed the template ''after'' you removed the option in the articles, and didn't purge the page from the cache, it was still using the old version and thus had the caption variable still on it. For future reference, to purge the page in the cache, so any changes to templates are brought forward, add &action=purge to the end of the url (eg http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mozilla_Firefox&action=purge ). Thanks User:Dysprosia 08:59, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC) ::: Yup, you're right. I did that ''after''. Thanks for your information! User:Minghong 10:30, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC) == Comparison of web browsers == That's a good job on the article... Splitting tables is by no means fun, but it needed to be done. User:GregorB 15:01, Feb 4, 2005 (UTC) :Yup, it was actually so troublesome that I had to duplicate the table and removed the columns cell by cell... Thanks for your appreciation! --User:Minghong 18:17, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC) == RDBMS == While I like the list of RDBMSs, and I like the new content you've added with the lists, I don't think you should have removed the small bit on Dataphor. There was some discussion about it on the talk page, and it would have been a good idea to run through that before making such a change. It wasn't placed in the article to enumerate the list of RDBMSs, but as a note it is by far the largest and most popular TRDBMS by those who make the disctinction between TRDBMSs and PRDBMSs. keep up the good work User:Mckaysalisbury 21:13, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC) :I removed it as there is no mention of other BIG vendors (e.g. Oracle). As the article is "Relational database management system", it shouldn't focus on any particular vendor. Anyway, perhaps it should be mentioned as "it is the one and only one that meets all Codd's rules". --User:Minghong 21:18, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC) ==Microsoft Outlook== If any of those viruses are specific to Outlook, they could go into the article, in their own "problems with this system" section? User:Ojw 19:24, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC) :Maybe add it into a "criticism" or "security" section (with description about the problem). You can take a look of Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox to see how people handle this. Simply type a list of virus, trojan, etc seems to be useless. --User:Minghong 19:28, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC) == Comparison of Internet forum software == With your recent edits, the text in the boxes is not aligned properly. They should all be center aligned, not left. If your edits cannot be fixed, a revert will have to be made. User:Andros 1337 13:43, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC) :It aligns properly under Firefox. Anyway, I'll try to fix it. The same "problem" seems to appear in other software comparison pages as well [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Software_comparison]. You may like to take a look, get a solution, and fix all of them. --User:Minghong 13:47, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC) :I fixed those issues. --User:Minghong 15:30, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC) == K-Meleon Page Zooming. == I noticed that you've reverted my edit to the page zooming capabilties to K-Meleon. Please check out Talk:Comparison of web browsers#K-Meleon.27s crippled Page-Zooming capablities. I know that text-zooming isn't page zooming, but K-Meleon can resize both text and images if you right-click on the zoom toolbar buttons, and select "Zoom In/Out Page", or using the "Ctrl,Alt,+/-" keyboard shortcuts. The only problem is that K-Meleon appearently doesn't resize background images. The Wikipedia logo is actually a div with a background image, so it wouldn't resize. :I see. I've only tested with a page using background image. Feel free to change to "partial" then. --User:Minghong 11:16, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC) ==Spelling corrections== Thanks for the thought, but it's not necessary to [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Ellmist/archive_1&curid=1449159&diff=0&oldid=0 make spelling corrections] on User talk:Ellmist/archive 1. Have a nice day. --User:Ellmist 12:51, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC) == Instant messenger programs == As you created the list, see the talk page of the list of instant messaging programs. I added an instant messaging client that wasn't listed, but wasn't sure which category to put it in, so hopefully you'll have a better understanding of the situation. User:Hedley 02:52, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC) :Look like "multi-protocol". I've updated the list. User:Minghong 08:52, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC) ==Your revert of my talk page== I do listen do the Wikipedians and I discussed the issues already. I ask you politely not to revert my talk page again. --User:ThomasK 11:17, Mar 19, 2005 (UTC) :Good to see you not blanking your talk page. ;-) User:Minghong 11:29, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC) The page was never blank- open task tag is always there. ;-)--User:ThomasK 11:42, Mar 19, 2005 (UTC) ==HKWNB, HKCOTW, Current events== Hi. I noticed you have edited some Hong Kong-related articles. You might be interested to take a look at WP:HKWNB, WP:HKCOTW and Current events in Hong Kong and Macao. You said you're a student from CityU in your user page. It would be nice if you can work on expanding the CityU articles, and those of other universities in Hong Kong. Happy editing! — User:InstantnoodUser_talk:Instantnood 12:09, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC) :Thanks! I never know these pages. I'll try to improve the article if I'm familiar about that topic. :-P --User:Minghong 12:28, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC) == Revert on list of RDBMS == On List of relational database management systems, you reverted a reordering with explanation: :Well... many free DBMSes (especially MySQL) are not comparable with DBMS like Oracle I don't understand how comparability is relevant... Please explain further to me. Thanks. User:Cburnett 20:39, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC) :Maybe list of web browsers can help explain this. IMO we should put the ones with better/richer feature or greater market share on the top. Big names like Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft, etc definately deserve a higher position. Well, maybe I'm biased. Anyway, see the :Category:Lists of software. You should be able to find many more lists that "Proprietary software" is listed before "Free software", e.g. list of operating systems, list of bitmap graphics editors and list of vector graphics editors. --User:Minghong 20:47, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC) ==GZIP== Hi I believe you wrote the initial gzip article. I hope you can help me. I have downloaded the Windows version: gzip.exe, and want to unzip a file 7.gz (downloaded from ttp://netlib.bell-labs.com/netlib/polyhedra/) How do I unzip it to get a file readable ideally by an MS Office application? I have tried the following: Run: cmd c:/Download>gzip -d 7.gz {Note: gzip.exe and 7.gz are in c:/Download folder} but this gives a file called 7 that is unreadable... at least, I don't know how to read it.... Thanks in advance for any help. User:Duncan.france 22:54, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) :Oops, you got it wrong. I'm not the one who initial the gzip article. I personally don't use command-line programs much. So you better just type gzip to see its manual. --User:Minghong 06:52, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC) == Windows managers and Tabbed document interface == Hello. Why did you join the list of X window manager and Programs? Isnt this two different things? At least this [http://www.gilesorr.com/papers/otherwm/images/pwm.png screenshot] looks alike.--User:Hhielscher 17:34, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC) : Windows manager is also a program. --User:Minghong 08:34, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC) == Speedy delete == The redirect page Moz firefox might well be unlikely to be used, but that's not good grounds for a speedy delete; if you want to, you can put it on Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion, but I don't really see the point. User:Mel Etitis (Μελ_Ετητης)">User talk:Mel Etitis 13:16, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC) == CSS Edits == Your edits to Comparison of web browser CSS support were not very well thought out, and your comments on the talk page showed why. I have responded but I strongly advise you don't delete content from this article without discussing it first. User:Nickshanks 10:08, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC) :Please stop editing the selectors, removing ones that should be there. You are not helping. If you want to help me, you can fill in the properties table below. User:Nickshanks 13:27, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC) ::Please don't revert without seeing what I've added. --User:Minghong 13:29, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC) :::I always check, and I didn't revert anything after all. Sometimes though it is easier to revert and make the same additions than it is to change it back without reverting, but not this time sa you added lots of version numbers, which is great! :-) :::I still don't really like the idea of grouping things together according to CSS level all in one table. As you know some things have been removed from CSS2.1 and 3 that were in CSS 1 and 2, and the definition of some have changed (e.g. content, :hover and :active). Before you arrived the table was exclusivly CSS2.1 - I was going to do a separate table and/or page for CSS3. The aural properties have changed considerably in CSS3, e.g. pause-before now occurs before cue-before, rather than after as it had in CSS2, and rest-before has replaced the old function of pause-before. I also think it's a bad idea to not list CSS3 selectors that are not yet implemented (or maybe they are and we haven't tested for them yet). It is useful information to know they are not implemented on any platform. User:Nickshanks 14:09, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC) ::::What I removed are selectors that is deprecated Minghong[[Image:minghong.png|frame|right|My avatar, created with [http://illustmaker.abi-station.com/index_en.shtml Portrait Illustration Maker].]] Hi, I'm Martin Ng (''Ng Ming Hong'' 伍明康) from Hong Kong. The nickname "minghong" is usually used instead as it is shorter and easier to type (for me). It also fits nicely with the 8.3 (computing) filename limitation in File Allocation Table partition (thought I've never used it). I graduated in computer science at City University of Hong Kong in 2005. I've been editing various Wiki pages in the English language Wikipedia, so as to correct the wrong/misleading information and fill the missing information that I think is important. Most of my contributions are computing-related or anime/manga-related. My contributions are as unbiased as possible. But as everyone make mistake, I'm not an exception. Please forgive me (and notify me) when it happens. ;-) Since 2004, I've been addicted to Mozilla, web standards, open source/free software, wiki and weblog. Now Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird are the default web browser and email client respectively for my Windows 2000/Windows XP machines. It is not likely to be changed in the foreseeable future: when it comes to web standards, usability, extensibility, customizability and computer security, Mozilla-based applications will hardly turn you down. I've been spreading Firefox before the creation of Spread Firefox community site. In fact, in the starting of the semester A, 2004, I convinced the [http://www.cs.cityu.edu.hk Department of Computer Science] to [http://minghong.blogspot.com/2004/09/firefox-10pr-now-available-in-cs-lab.html install Firefox on the Windows workstations] that are open to the CS students. I found that a significant proportion of my classmates is already using Firefox as their default browser. That's ''really'' exciting! Besides spreading Firefox in the real life, I set up a climateprediction.net team named "Spread Firefox" at September 26, 2004. The team is hence known as "SFX@CP.NET" for short. Thanks to [http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=user/view/8 Robin Monks] of [http://moznews.sourceforge.net MozNews], I was able to have [http://moznews.sourceforge.net/cp/ an official website for the team]. In less than 2.5 months, the team managed to become the second most productive team (and being the third now). The power of Firefox community is simply amazing! After graduating in 2005, I work as a contract web application programmer in [http://www.avalade.com Avalade], a consultant company that offers open source marketing solutions. ==Contact information== {|cellpadding="3" |- !Website |[http://minghong.f2g.net Just Another Site] |- !Blog |[http://minghong.blogspot.com Just Another Blog] |- !Gallery |[http://www.flickr.com/photos/minghong/ Flickr] |- !Bookmark |[http://del.icio.us/minghong del.icio.us] |- !Email: |minghong AT gmail DOT com |- !ICQ: |[http://wwp.icq.com/58613828 58613828] |- !MSN: |(same as email address) |- |} ==Favorite things== ===Favorite internet services=== *Google (search engine) *Gmail *Blogger *Flickr *del.icio.us ===Favorite software=== *Mozilla Firefox *Mozilla Thunderbird *Mozilla **Mozilla Application Suite **SeaMonkey *Gaim *Adobe Photoshop *IrfanView *Media Player Classic *Real Alternative *QuickTime Alternative *FileZilla *eMule *BitComet *PuTTY *Crimson Editor *vi *pico (text editor) *MinGW Developer Studio *7-Zip *TUGZip *IZArc *ffdshow *LAME *VobSub *VirtualDub *Nandub *DVD2AVI *SmartRipper *Apache HTTP Server *Oracle database *SQLite *Firebird (database server) *PostgreSQL *Microsoft SQL Server *Microsoft Access *Ultr@VNC *Remote Desktop Connection ===Favorite computer languages=== *C Plus Plus *JavaScript *PHP *SQL *Cascading Style Sheets *XML *XSL Transformations *XHTML *XUL *Document Type Definition *XML Schema *Qt (toolkit) *Cangjie method ===Favorite codecs=== *DivX *XviD *RealMedia Variable Bitrate *MPEG *MP3 ===Favorite archive formats=== *7z *gzip *bzip2 ===Favorite image formats=== *PNG *Scalable Vector Graphics ===Favorite anime/manga=== ====Studio Ghibli==== *Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (:ja:風の谷のナウシカ) *Castle in the Sky (:ja:天空の城ラピュタ) *Grave of the Fireflies (:ja:火垂るの墓) *My Neighbor Totoro (:ja:となりのトトロ) *Kiki's Delivery Service (:ja:魔女の宅急便) *Porco Rosso (:ja:紅の豚) *Pom Poko (:ja:平成狸合戦ぽんぽこ) *Whisper of the Heart (:ja:耳をすませば) *On Your Mark (:ja:On Your Mark) *Princess Mononoke (:ja:もののけ姫) *Spirited Away (:ja:千と千尋の神隠し) *The Cat Returns (:ja:猫の恩返し) ====Osamu Tezuka==== *Mitsume ga Toru (:ja:三つ目がとおる) *Phoenix (manga) (:ja:火の鳥 (漫画) *Black Jack (manga) (:ja:ブラック・ジャック) ====Ghost in the Shell==== *Ghost in the Shell (:ja:攻殻機動隊) *Innocence: Ghost in the Shell (:ja:イノセンス) *Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (:ja:攻殻機動隊 STAND ALONE COMPLEX) *Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG (:ja:攻殻機動隊 S.A.C. 2nd GIG) ====Science fiction==== *Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (:ja:ふしぎの海のナディア) *Crest of the Stars (:ja:星界の紋章) *Banner of the Stars (:ja:星界の戦旗) *Appleseed (:ja:アップルシード) *Voices of a Distant Star (:ja:ほしのこえ) *Kumo no Mukou Yakusoku no Basho (:ja:雲のむこう、約束の場所) ====Gundam series==== *Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (:ja:機動戦士ガンダムSEED) *Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (:ja:機動戦士ガンダムSEED DESTINY) ====Giant mecha==== *Patlabor (:ja:機動警察パトレイバー) *Neon Genesis Evangelion (:ja:新世紀エヴァンゲリオン) *Geneshaft *Vandread *Fafner of the Azure (:ja:蒼穹のファフナー) ====Comedy==== *Love Hina (:ja:ラブひな) *Azumanga Daioh (:ja:あずまんが大王) *Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (:ja:アベノ橋魔法☆商店街) *Sgt.
