MediumThe word medium has a number of uses:ukahsbdzylo *The most common meaning of the word medium is an average or mean in a range of sizes or conditions. Usually, the term is used when there are only a few different sizes in the range, rather than many. For example, items such as drinks at a fast food restaurant might come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. *When relating to the bearing of something, a medium (bearer) (plural—''media'') is a process or object that can carry, transmit, or store something. *A medium (spirituality) is an individual who has the ability to receive or channel messages from spirits, ghosts, or other discorporate entities. *In microbiology and other scientific disciplines, a microbiological medium is a nutrient system for the artificial cultivation of cells or organisms and especially bacteria. *In communications, Recording medium is an intervening substance through which a message or information is transmitted or carried on. *In art, medium is a specific kind of artistic technique or means of expression or the materials used in a specific artistic technique. (also see Multimedia) *A medium (optics) is something that is homogeneous on lengthscales comparable with the wavelength of the light being considered. *Medium is the title of a 2005 American television series. See Medium (TV series). *MEDIUM is an Architectural design company based in Montreal Canada. The word ''medium'' comes directly from Latin, in which it means, "the one in the middle." The plural, "mediums" is sometimes used. The plural, "media" is not to be confused with the technical term, "media", which pluralizes to "medias". ''Media'', the technical term, is a plural noun, singular in construction, coming from the plural of "medium". Interestingly, the peculiarities of the English language and its use of the same word for different meanings allow English speakers to make such statements as, "Small medium at large!" that are both comprehensible and mildly amusing. simple:Medium MediumShould it be pointed out somewhere that the plural is "media"? Daniel C. Boyer ---- I removed the first example because, IMHO, water is not a medium for salt, since a medium is not only a carrier, but (being in the middle, as in the latin sense) it is necessarily a carrier OF something TO something else, with both a starting and an ending point of the journey, and water brings salt TO nowhere specifically (salt moistures with water making a composite newer "thing", and it would get out of it only after a separation of the resulting composite). The example of art can be accepted if we commonly intend that (quite rethorically) - i.e. - "marble was the medium that let us appreciate today the art of Michelangelo". But, is this really worth being the first example? :The following sentence was found in the editing history, but it has been removed: :''In religion, a medium is a person who acts as a 'mediator' between the living and the dead spirits.'' :I have seen ([http://www.google.com/search?q=medium+spiritism]) that the term is widely used in english with this meaning too. Given that, in case, it refers to spiritism rather than to religion, why was it deleted by previous contributors instead of correcting it? :I'd add it again to the article, if someone agrees. ::I have added it again. People may want to copyedit this but I think it has to be there (it is linked from automatism, for example. ::user:danielcboyer Finally, human brain isn't in any intermediate position: it receives or it (hopefully) produces, it is either the starting point or the final stop of information, unless we wish to discuss whether there is something else in us apart from head and heart (but this would be inappropriate here) or that a man's brain can be merely instrumental to us (to which part of us?) or to someone else, but this would perhaps be satire. --user:Gianfranco See other meanings of words starting from letter: MMA | MB | MC | MD | ME | MF | MG | MH | MI | MJ | MK | ML | MN | MO | MP | MR | MS | MT | MU | MW | MX | MY | MZ |Words begining with Medium: Medium Medium Medium-density_fiberboard Medium-density_fibreboard Medium-format Medium-level_programming_language Medium-level_programming_language Medium-power_talker Medium-wave Mediumistic_automatism Mediumwave Mediumwave_Transmitter_Bremen Mediumwave_transmitter_Bremen Mediumwave_transmitter_Flevoland Mediumwave_transmitter_Lopik Mediumwave_Transmitter_Mainflingen Mediumwave_transmitter_Mainflingen Medium_(bearer) Medium_(disambiguation) Medium_(information) Medium_(optics) Medium_(spirituality) Medium_(spirituality) Medium_(TV_series) Medium_(TV_series) Medium_(tv_series) Medium_access_control Medium_access_control_sublayer Medium_Access_Techniques Medium_Attachment_Unit Medium_Attachment_Unit Medium_bomber Medium_chain_acyl_dehydrogenase_deficiency Medium_chain_acyl_dehydrogenase_deficiency Medium_Coeli Medium_Cool Medium_Cool Medium_density_fibreboard Medium_earth_orbit Medium_endurance_cutter Medium_episodes_(Season_1) Medium_Extended_Air_Defense_System Medium_fighter Medium_format Medium_format Medium_frequency Medium_Mark_B Medium_Mark_B Medium_Mark_C Medium_Mark_C Medium_Neutral_HCA Medium_Neutral_HCA Medium_of_exchange Medium_of_instruction Medium_Poodle Medium_Productions Medium_second Medium_shot Medium_speed_engines Medium_Tactical_Vehicle_Replacement Medium_tank Medium_tanks Medium_Term_Note Medium_wave Medium_wave_transmitter |
