In the Canadian federal election, 2000, Thompson ran in the riding of Winnipeg South Centre, and received 202 votes. He ran in the same riding in the Canadian federal election, 2004, and received 114 votes. During the latter campaign, he signed a manifesto put forward by the Manitoba Real Estate Association (entitled ''Quality of Life'') which called for increased housing opportunities and water safety.
