Liaqat Baloch

Liaqat Baloch (born December 9, 1952) is a political leader in Pakistan. He is originally from Muzaffargarh, a remote area of southern Punjab. He played an active role in student politics in the late 1970s and was known as the Terrorist Prince at the University of the Punjab where he was twice elected president of the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba. He holds an MSc (Mass Communication} and LLB degree from the University of the Punjab. He was a member of the Pakistani parliament in 1985 and 1991. Critics accuse him of encouraging Gun culture in Pakistan and terrorism in educational institutions. He allegedly tortured and killed some of his student-leader opponents. His brother Sadaqat Baloch, a ''Dacoit'', was executed in Multan in 2001 for theft, kidnapping, and murder. In the interest of his own political career, he distanced himself from his brother because of Sadaqat's notorious criminal activities. Today, Mr Baloch lives in Lahore and is the vice president of Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan hardline Islamic religio-political party. He is also the secretary-general of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal and the deputy leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. Political experts in Pakistan believe that he will be the next president of the Jamaat-e-Islami. ==Also see== * Islamism * Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba * Jamaat-e-Islami * Khurshid Ahmad * Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal * Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi * Politics of Pakistan * Qazi Hussain Ahmad * List of political parties in Pakistan
