Kodiak Island Borough, AlaskaKodiak Island Borough is a borough located in the U.S. state of Alaska. As of 2000, the population is 13,913. The borough seat is Kodiak, Alaska. == Geography == The borough has a total area of 31,141 square kilometer (12,024 square mile). 16,990 km² (6,560 mi²) of it is land and 14,151 km² (5,464 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 45.44% water. Most of the land area belongs to Kodiak Island, but a thin strip of coastal area on mainland Alaska and a few other nearby islands are also in the borough. The strait between the island and mainland is known as the Shelikof Strait. South of the island are the open waters of the Pacific Ocean, so the site is considered good for launching certain types of satellites. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 5,159 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 59.69% Race (U.S. census), 0.96% Race (U.S. census) or Race (U.S. census), 14.58% Race (U.S. census), 16.04% Race (U.S. census), 0.79% Race (U.S. census), 2.78% from race (U.S. census), and 5.16% from two or more races. 6.10% of the population are Race (U.S. census) or Race (U.S. census) of any race. There are 4,424 households out of which 45.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.70% are Marriage living together, 8.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.40% are non-families. 19.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.07 and the average family size is 3.52. In the borough the population is spread out with 32.40% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 34.00% from 25 to 44, 20.40% from 45 to 64, and 4.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 112.40 males.
