Iraqi Islamic Party



Iraqi Islamic Party (''Hizb al-Islami al-Airaqi''), a Sunni political party in Iraq. The party was founded in 1960. It evolved out of the Muslim Brotherhood movement. It was clandestine during the Saddam Hussein years. The party general secretary is Dr. Mohsen Abdel Hamid, also spelled "Mohsin Abd al-Hamid". After the invasion of Iraq, IIP joined the United States-appointed government. On November 9th 2004, during the attack of United States-led forces on Falluja, IIP withdrew its support to the government.
