An intelligence agency is a governmental organization devoted to gathering of information by means of espionage (spying), SIGINT, cryptoanalysis, cooperation with other institutions, and evaluation of public sources. Intelligence agencies are also involved in defensive activities such as counter-espionage or counter-terrorism.
