Iga, Mie



Iga (伊賀市 -shi) is a Municipality of Japan located in Mie Prefecture, Japan. It became a city on November 1, 2004 as a result of the merger of the city of Ueno, Mie; the towns of Iga, Ayama, Mie, Shimagahara, Mie and the village of Oyamada, Mie (which were in Ayama District, Mie); and the town of Aoyama, Mie (which was in Naga District, Mie). The former towns, villages, and districts were abolished at the time of the merger. Iga has a population of 102,965 (as of October 1, 2004) and an area of 558.17 Square kilometre. Before the merger, Iga was the name of a towns of Japan, which now lies within the new city. As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 10,768 and a population density of 173.65 persons per square kilometer. The total area was 62.01 km². Cities in Mie Prefecture
