Iconoclast

An iconoclast originally referred to a person who destroyed icons, that is, sacred paintings or sculpture. An example is Byzantine Emperors Leo III, who ordered the destruction of all icons of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and the Saints in his empire. For more discussion of historical iconoclasts, see iconoclasm. The more common meaning in current usage is that an iconoclast is a person who carries out symbolic or Don Quixote acts of protest against authority figures, the connotation being that the iconoclast opposes the imposition of authority itself rather than any particular policy or action. The term may also refer to a person who reacts against popular culture or ideals. Iconoclast is also the name of a hardcore band on Ebullition Records. ==See also== *iconoclasm *reactionary

One day, I aspire to be a great moderator or even admin of this fine website. I will do whatever is needed of me, vote whatever is expected of me, and correct any mistakes on any pages. I would be professional in my attitude, and ignore vote for deletion votes and delete pages on the whim of my emotions; one must be a passionate person to be looked up to :) == About Me == Hello, I am Iconoclast, and I am interested in Historical Accuracy. Some of my interests are in biology, homosexuality, minority rights, Christianity, and many other things. I am a member of the American Democratic Party. I am a supporter of homosexual rights and a member of the ADL. I also donate to various charities, such as the Habitat for Humanity and Amnesty International. I am a proud Christian, and believe that God in His infinite wisdom created man through nature and evolution. I believe that God put us on earth to love our fellow man and spread His good. I am proud of my African heritage, and I have donated to the NAACP in the past as well as celebrate Kwanzaa with my twelve year old nephew and my sister Yolanda. I am proud of my homosexuality, a fulfilling lifestyle and one that has been adopted by many famous peoples throughout the world, such as Caesar, Alexander the Great, Francis Bacon, Ghandi, Shakespear, Frederick Douglass, and Plato. I believe that I am the biggest fan of the Village People. They have been promoting homosexual rights even when it wasn't cool to do so, and thus they are heroic in my eyes in their search for equality and tolerance. Some of my favorite songs by them are the hits YMCA and In the Navy. My favorite is the ex-band member Jim Flanklin (he is the cop), who authored the song In the Navy and I have an autographed album with his signature on it! I dress like him every Halloween to parties and such. One of my wildest dreams is to be the next cop replacement, although this dream is doubtful as I am getting creaky in my old age :( However if you are a fan of the village people please leave me a message in my talk page, thanks, it is always good to know other Village People fans :-) == My Life == I was born on April 20, 1945. Born to my mother, an African woman (Faizah) who was the descendent of a slave held by Thomas Jefferson, and my father, a Jewish banker named Calev. I have a younger sister named Yolanda and her son is named Dinari who is mildly autistic. My mother died when I was twenty-one, which took me many years to get over. My father is still alive and is doing very successfully in life, which I am proud of. In youth, I grew up in the deep south (I was born in Alabama and grew accustomed to racial slurs and insults pertaining to my homosexuality. I often got in a few fights with the neighborhood children, however I learned to survive so that I wouldn't get harassed often. One day, my mother was inside the house preparing dinner (my dad lived in washington D.C. for business reasons) and a couple white men came inside the house and raped her. The Sheriff rules it a suicide. However, I realized then that tolerance and love for others was the only way to achieve peace, and I joined in on peace movements in the U.S.A. I even talked to Martin Luther King Jr. a week before his death. He was truly a remarkable man. However, when I was twenty-three years old in the 1968 presidential election I was turned away from the polls (I wanted to vote for Humphrey) I refused to leave and let intolerance win; I stayed and ignored the remarks and threats from the nearby whites. However, they found ways to make sure I couldn't vote and I left the booth in tears. This taught me an important lesson in life: fighting will get you nowhere and one must love each and every person as the individual they are. I wanted to be known as the next Martin Luther King Jr and one of the best freedom fighters ever. I wrote down my own inspirational speeches and recited them to whoever would listen. I knew each of them off the top of my head, but unfortunatly I could not get people to take me seriously so that dream fizzled out. Here is a sample that I still remember to this day: ''Every man and women, child and prostitute, dog and cat and every person of homosexual persuasion;'' ''let me tell you this: nobody shall ever let you down, and nobody will ever trod upon you: love for'' ''you and your neighbor is the most important thing you can ever concieve of in your life, and to all'' ''that my be intentionally ignoring my words, I ask of you, no, I beg of you, no, I PLEAD with you,'' ''please listen to these words for one day you will be the one trodded upon....'' In the 80s I found my father, a respected man among many wealthy men, and away from public eye he gave me a nice sum of money. I promptly donated it to various charities, one of which has a plaque engraved with my name on it. I still keep in contact with him regularly. I am currently engaged to my boyfriend of three years, his name is Derek and I love him very much; we are planning to get married in the Unitarian Universalism church. I am a computer programmer and I enjoy tinkering with Open Source programs, my favorites being The Gimp and Linux. I have met Linus Torvalds at a linux conference and shook his hand. That was a very memorable day! Too bad that Linus only shoot straight ;). * American Nihilist Underground Society -- A heretical group which is known among the metal scene. Although their content is offensive, I try to edit it as objectively as possible. I believe everyone has the right to freedom of speech, even those who spread hurtful messages to fellow man and our saviour Jesus Christ. :* This page has currently been deleted, and a vote for deletion in progress was ignored. I believe that this was a good thing, as the admin responsible went for the meat and bones of the situation, and I believe emotion is a very important part of the human psyche, and to act upon it is one of the purest things one can do. * African Jew -- Because I am the product of an African and a Jew, such a page interests me because I can really connect to the material on it. * Martin Luther King Jr -- Freedom Fighter and Nioviolent activist, one of the greatest men in the past 10,000 years (Jesus was #1). His page is currently being slandered, and it says that he has commited the crime of plagiarism; I have made it my mission to delete this incorrect information and idolize the memory of this great man. * Homosexuality -- Existing for ages but only in modern times has become socially viable, homosexuality is, essentially, the "third gender". Many famous people have become homosexual, leading biologists such as Stephen Jay Gould to theorize that any supposed gay gene may also indirectly affect an individual's desire to become well-known and heroic. * Linux -- The best operating system in the world, with millions of users worldwide. It boasts excellent GUIs and lighting speed desktop environments. It is superior to windows in every way, and has been ready for the desktop for the last three years. My distro of choice is Ubuntu Linux. * Village People -- Homosexual disco group that goes beyond disco - their ideology is homosexual rights and have been instrumental in gay rights across the world ever since their creation. I recommend giving them a listen to any fan of fine music :) == Links == * [http://www.christiananswers.net Christian Answers] - Excellent resources on the Christian Faith. * [http://www.metalforjesus.org Metal for Jesus] - Excellent resource for finding Christian Metal. * [http://www.adl.org Anti-Defamation League] - Preventing racial hatred and protecting the Jewish people. * [http://www.anus.com American Nihilist Underground Society] - Dissident group which I take interest in due to their rebellious nature. * [http://www.ngltf.org The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force] - Homosexual civil rights organization. * [http://www.naacp.org National Association for the Advancement of Colored People] - African-American Civil Rights group. * [http://gaylife.about.com/od/africanamerican/ Gaylife.com's article for african americans] -- The gay style isn't just for slick white people :-) * [http://www.gmad.org/ Gay Men of African Descent] -- You're not alone!

== OMG LINKZ OMG == Please do not post [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Neoclassicism&diff=0&oldid=9403715 nonsense] on wikipedia articles. User:Jonathunder 04:29, 2005 Jan 17 (UTC) * Alright, I'll get right on it, Jon (Can I call you Jon?) --User:Iconoclast 06:23, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC) ** Actually, I'd really rather you wouldn't. User:Jonathunder 02:26, 2005 Jan 18 (UTC) :** You don't want me to get right on it? k then.... --User:Iconoclast 02:59, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC) == Mistaken motives == Your attempts at satire are unconvincing and unappreciated. If you disapprove of aspects of the project, you're welcome to raise policy concerns on the Wikipedia:Village pump (policy) page. But it's actually much easier to convince people when you actually, y'know, ''say'' what you mean instead of staging stunts to try to imply it. -User:Phthoggos 08:28, Jan 17, 2005 (UTC) :* Satire? I am not a satirical person; I just enjoy a casual atmosphere. :-) You seem like a nice guy, perhaps a linux user? --User:Iconoclast 08:45, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC) Wikipedia:Don't disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point#State your point; don't prove it experimentally is, more precisely, what I was trying to say. It's obvious what you're doing; please don't. -User:Phthoggos 00:39, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC) :* Good sir, I argue for things that I want done. My motives are not disguised at all, I'm merely a homosexual black man that wants to contribute to this fine webspace :) I'm just another internet citizen of cyberspace --User:Iconoclast 00:57, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC) == User:NSM88 == His political views are extremely hateful. He openly proclaimed that he was a white supremecist (though under the guise of "White liberation"). At one point he had a picture of him holding a meeting of Nazis, which is calculated to be disruptive and can cause quite a bit of distress to quite a few of our fellow Wikipedians. If you don't like what I did, tough. I've been open about what I've done, but I don't expect you to understand. - User:Ta bu shi da yu 02:20, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC) :He wasn't banned because of such, he was banned because he was a nazi. As well, from what I've gathered in my stay here, I thought that only actions were punishable and not beliefs. If he has a picture that isn't pornographic or 'vulgar' in a violent sense, then at least remove it and notify him of the rules instead of banning his account. --User:Iconoclast 02:45, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC) == I will use you as an example == Out of all political (and religious) doctrines that I know of, an absolutely pivotal dimension that is unique to Nazism pertains to the uncovertability of undesirables. Now, having read your userpage, allow me to employ you in the following example which illustrates this: unlike all the other ideologies, Nazism is the only one where one cannot convert in exchange for one's life. Under other (reactionary) doctrines, convertability may entail renouncing homosexuality or chattel enslavement due to African traits, but they nonetheless provide an option in which continued to existence is made possible. With the Nazis no such 'redemption' is possible, because stratification according to innate traits, attributes which the individual can do nothing to change, is taken to its logical conclusion: physical destruction. In that sense, espousing Nazi views inexorably is incitement for murder. With all other ideologies, there is still a remote possibility for 100% voluntary conversion without any uphevels, etc., but with Nazism, we assume (again, in theory) that invariably there –has– to be murder. User:El C 07:01, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC) : From my research, there are many 'nazis' and other analogous factions which believe in segregation or forced deportation. Such ideas allow for survival and 'convertability', at least to an extent. Even if genocide and obliteration were active principles in their doctrines, any censorship leads to authority-induced approval of what is and isn't verboten. Your ideology is primarily a utilitarian one, in which whatever is 'splendid' to the crowd takes precedence over individual freedoms. :The root issue is that censorship of anybody as a belief item is when any public forum is controlled and regulated by a person or group's own prejudices. Such ideals are a result of the conscious or subconscious belief that truth is only approved social paradigms and popular manners, without consideration of the employer. No plate should be taboo on the table of ideas, and not a fork favored. It's inevitable that one will come across undesirable creeds that conflict with one's own beliefs; I'd just rather not a soul be subjected towards intellectual imperialism --User:Iconoclast 02:46, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC) ::My ideology cannot be reduced to and expressed through such a teleological (nor a deontological) framework, and my explanation above was designed towards someone who holds the views you do (as depicted on your user page). At any rate, an exposition of what Nazi doctrine is, or what child pronography is, etc., is very different from propaganda promoting it; that's a monumental distortion which has nothing to do with freedom of speech as most people understand it. And I think that calling such a position ''intellectual imperialism'' smacks of apologism. Luckily, I am comforted that on this issue (unlike many others), the Wikipedia powers-that-be share my view and not yours. User:El C 01:13, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)
