Ice Cube:''This page is about a person. You may be looking for ice cube made of frozen water.'' [[Image:Ice-cube01.jpg|thumb|right|Ice Cube, in a scene from ''Next Friday'' (1999)]] Ice Cube (born June 15, 1969) is an American actor and controversial rapper, originally a member of the N.W.A. (Niggaz With Attitude) until launching a successful solo career in music and cinema. Ice Cube, born '''O'Shea Jackson''', was raised in South Central Los Angeles Los Angeles, California by his parents, both of whom were employed at UCLA. He began writing raps in high school, most notably "Boyz 'N Da Hood", a song which later became famous when done by NWA. Cube and a friend, Sir Jinx, rapped as a partnership called C.I.A. (Group) at parties hosted by Dr. Dre. After a brief stint in a group called "HBO", Cube showed Eazy-E "Boyz 'N Da Hood" and the pair, plus Dr. Dre, and MC Ren formed N.W.A. Cube took one year off to earn a degree in architectural drafting in Phoenix, Arizona in 1987 but returned in time to participate in NWA's debut album, ''Straight Outta Compton''. The album was a masterpiece of old school rap and attracted much notoriety for the group, from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and concerned citizen and parent groups. Ice Cube left NWA due to financial and personality conflicts in 1989. With Da Lench Mob and the Bomb Squad (Public Enemy's producers), Cube recorded his debut album in New York City. ''AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted'' was released in 1990 and was an instantaneous hit as rap's popularity increased in mainstream society. Though he was criticized for allegedly misogynistic and violent lyrics, even critics had to agree that the album was a groundbreaking, innovative piece of work. Partially to help deflect criticisms, Cube appointed a female rapper named Yo-Yo (rapper) (who guested on ''AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted'') to the head of his own record label and helped produce her debut album, ''Make Way for the Motherlode''. That was followed by a critically acclaimed turn in ''Boyz N the Hood'', a film by John Singleton. Cube's 1991 follow-up, ''Death Certificate'' was even more controversial. Cube toured on Lollapalooza in 1992 and widened his fan base. Also during that that year, he converted to the Nation of Islam. He released ''The Predator'' which debuted at #1 on both the pop and R&B charts, the first album in history to do so. After ''The Predator'', Cube's audience began to diminish. ''Lethal Injection'' (1993) was not very well-liked by critics (and by some fans), and Dr. Dre and the West Coast G-Funk sound was dominating American hip-hop. Taking a break from his own albums, Cube assisted on debuts from Da Lench Mob (''Guerillas in the Mist'') and Kam (''Neva Again''). He later dueted with Dr. Dre on "Natural Born Killaz". With Mack 10 and WC (rapper), Cube formed the Westside Connection in 1995, releasing their debut album ''Bow Down'' later that year. Sales were brisk but did not establish a large audience. Cube released several more solo albums; however, he is now known more for his movies than his original, groundbreaking music. However in December 2004, after a long break from recording, he reached #2 in the UK singles chart with the club favourite, "You Can Do It" (featuring Mack 10 and Ms Toi), released as a single 5 years after it was first put onto film soundtracks like ''Next Friday'' and ''Save The Last Dance''. == Discography == *''Amerikkka's Most Wanted'' 1990 *''Kill At Will 1990 - EP *''Death Certificate'' 1991 *''The Predator'' 1992 *''Lethal Injection'' 1993 *''Bootlegs & B-Sides'' 1994 - Compilation *''Featuring Ice Cube'' 1997 - Compilation *''War & Peace - Volume 1 (The War Disc)'' 1998 *''War & Peace - Volume 2 (The Peace Disc)'' 2000 *''Ice Cube - Greatest Hits'' 2001 - Compilation == Film Career == Ice Cube's film career began with testing his roles as Doughboy and Fudge in John Singleton's films ''Boyz N the Hood '' (1991) and ''Higher Learning'' (1995). Cube wrote, produced and starred in ''Friday (movie)'', which spawned two sequels ''Next Friday'' and ''Friday after Next''. As opposed to the beverage additive[http://home.howstuffworks.com/icemaker.htm], or the particle physics project[http://icecube.wisc.edu/]? :Ice cubes already have their own page, and there is no page for the IceCube project, so it would seem that Ice Cube is the most notable entity named Ice Cube, with that capitalization and spacing. User:TOO 19:33, Oct 14, 2004 (UTC) :yes. he is. who the hell looks up "ice cubes" on wikipedia? --User:68.38.159.93 18:54, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC) O'Shea Jackson (Ice Cube) was named so that his initials would be "OJ", like OJ Simpson. Someone might want to add this somewhere. The article says that Lethal Injection was "not well-liked by fans". I liked it when it first came out and so did lots of people (and I'm talking about the reaction on the streets in Los Angeles in 1993). It had lots of hit tracks like "You know how we do it", "Ghetto Bird", "Bop Gun", and so on, which still get played on the radio often (though Ghetto Bird for some reason not as much). User:Decius 04:01, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC) Ice cube:''For the American rapper and actor, see Ice Cube.'' An ice cube is a small, roughly Cube (geometry)-shaped piece of ice, conventionally placed in drinks to cool them down. Ice cubes are often preferred over crushed ice because they melt more slowly; they are standard in mixed drinks that call for ice, in which case the drink is said to be "on the rocks." Ice cubes are produced domestically by filling an ice cube tray with water and placing it in a freezer. Many freezers also come equipped with an icemaker, which produces ice cubes automatically and stores them in a bin from which they can be dispensed directly into a glass. Ice cubes made by automatic icemakers are generally longer and thinner, requiring less force to remove them from the tray. Ice cubes are also produced commercially and sold in bulk; these ice cubes are often cylindrical, and may have holes through the center. An interesting characteristic of commercially made ice cubes is that they are completely clear, lacking the clouding found in the center of domestically made ice cubes. This is due to the machine forming the cubes in thin layers, instead of all the water that the ice cube consists of being frozen at once. Cloudy ice cubes result when water is frozen quickly. When water is cooled slowly (or very close to its freezing point), dissolved gases and microscopic bubbles have a chance to exit the water. However, when water is cooled quickly (further below its freezing point, a situation found in most home freezers), those small bubbles are simply frozen in place. Domestic ice cubes will sometimes precipitate white flakes as they melt. This is calcium carbonate which is present in many water supplies and is completely harmless. Traditionally, drinks in Europe are served without ice. In India and other parts of the world, it has traditionally been viewed as unhealthy to drink a libation with ice. Many older Indians still refuse to use it.
