IanbHello Ian, Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers to Wikipedia. Here are some useful links in case you haven't already found them; *Wikipedia:How to edit a page *Wikipedia:Image use policy *Wikipedia:How to write a great article *Wikipedia:Naming conventions *Wikipedia:Manual of Style If you have any questions, see the Wikipedia:Help, add a question to the Wikipedia:village pump or ask me on User_talk:Angela. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedia:Wikipedians! User:Angela 23:50, Nov 8, 2003 (UTC) ---- Photos It depends on whether you are talking about photos taken by me, or others I have used. If you nominate the ones you want I can tell. You are welcome to use the photos taken by me. These are mainly the ones taken in Greece. The others are mostly just random downloads from the Internet. User:Adam Carr 00:16, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC) The charioteer image is mine and you are welcome to use it. The other two I downloaded from somewhere so you can use them at your own risk. I have better photos of mine of the Parthenon and the Acropolis if you want them. User:Adam Carr 06:34, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC) ---- Ian, while Carole Stone does seem to be encyclopedic (and kinda interesting, actually) it looks like the text there is from [http://www.randomhouse.co.uk/catalog/author.htm?authorID=3531 her author bio]. So, unless the poster is she or some Random House agent, it probably constitutes a copyvio. -- User:Finlay McWalter | User talk:Finlay McWalter 00:00, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC) == Farthen Dûr & Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Farthen Dûr == Heya... please take a look at the improvements to the article. Thanks! - User:UtherSRG 02:52, 31 Jul 2004 (UTC) == Entertainment Unit. == This post is meant in good faith, although it may at point appear indignant. I was a little vexed about the way you treated an article of mine. I mean, who's it hurting? If yer don't like it, just don't read it. It were just a harmless piece of fun. If this is the policy, why not get started on the Simpsons page? Or the Beatles? I mean, who is going to search for Mal Evans? Or My Two Cents? . I can't imagine too many people searching for Ferdinand de Lessops either, but it seems reasonable that he should be on. I can't see how this whole encyclopedia thing cannot be harmed by little bits of trivia with limited appeal, connected to more important matter. I'm not going to bother appealing for it to be un-deleated, but i'm slightly upset as if you'd just told me I would gladly have removed it, edited it and put it elsewhere. I read your policies on deleating, and I know you had your reasons, but it wasn't self promotional in any way and rather than diluting other articles, I was merely trying stop another article into which it could have been included from becoming over concentrated. Thanks anyway. (also, you may wish to revise your love of sarcastic comments, as your, whilst not especially offencive, was basically not funny ;]) --User:Crestville 01:15, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC) : Thanks, I appreciate that. It's probobly a better way of doing it anyway. --User:Crestville 10:42, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC) == Sympson the Joiner == # Sympson the Joiner survived VfD with two Del votes (including the nomination to VfD), three explicit Keep votes, and two arguable implicit Keeps (via mentions of Cleanup). # In accord with the WP:CU referral you advocated, it ## went on, ## got a one-word M(inor) edit after 18 minutes, and ## was kicked off by one editor after 14 hours, with summary "nothing more is likely to turn up". # Your comment at Talk:Sympson the Joiner#Should this be Merged? would assist me in determining what next. --User:JerzyUser talk:Jerzy 04:22, 2004 Aug 16 (UTC) ==GPL?== Hi, I've assumed that :Image:Yamanote line train.jpg is GFDL since you didn't state otherwise and you checked the box to say "I affirm that the copyright holder of this file agrees to license it under the terms of the Wikipedia copyright." If that was the wrong assumption to make, please can you change the Wikipedia:Image copyright tags on the description page. For :Image:Yamanote-sen-205-cattle-wagon.jpg, you wrote it was licensed under the GPL. Did you mean to dual licence it or should this have been GFDL? The two licenses are not compatible, so please could you clarify which licence you meant, or if you meant both. Thanks. User:Angelauser talk:Angela 18:15, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC) * changed, I was new when I uploaded those --User:Ianb 19:43, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC) == Thanks! == For fixing the "links" citation in my athletic director article. Also, I agree with your philosophy almost totally. I think that the idea that "Wikipedia is not paper" gives people the idea that articles about their daddy, their grade school, their favorite teachers, etc., are all acceptable. I also see that at times the list thing can get out of hand. I believe that "List of rivers in Tennessee" is encylopedic, but "List of creeks in Davidson County, Tennessee", which I could also produce, if I chose to, is not. Likewise, I don't care about list of mayors of totally insignificant towns. On biographies, I think that they need to be people that are of some significance, people who are widely known in at least a region, state, or major city. Therefore a article on someone who has been a statewide nominee of a major political party is article-worthy in a way that the incumbent mayor of, say, Walterhill, Tennessee or Inez, Kentucky is not. The lead singer for a band which has had albums released by national record companies is article-worthy; the lead singer of my favorite bar band is not, unless he used to be with, say, UB40. I will continue to try to bring my submissions up to standards, but certainly hope that you will continue to fix them when they are not. User:Jnc 22:34, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC) == Article Licensing == Hi, I've User:rambot#Free the Rambot Articles project to get users to Wikipedia:Multi-licensing all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (''CC-by-sa'') v1.0 and v2.0 Creative Commons Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The ''CC-by-sa'' license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the Wikipedia:List_of_Wikipedians_by_number_of_edits Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at ''minimum'' those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information: *User talk:Ram-Man#Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered *Wikipedia:Multi-licensing *User:rambot#Free the Rambot Articles project To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the " IanbHi, I'm entirely unnotable. See my User:Ianb/Vanity for less information. Right now I'm on a clean-up spree, due to having lots of odd moments but no creative energy. To prevent an overload of the Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion page I'm noting articles here which I've gleaned from Wikipedia:Cleanup here, for the time being. === deletion policy === At the moment I´m particularly interested in biographies. * a biography is useless if it only tells me of the existence of a person. If further research does not reveal anything notable / encylopedic about that person, it should be deleted. * autobiographies and vanity pages dilute the informational value of Wikipedia and should be mercilessly deleted. Wikipedia should not degenerate into a personal listings site for all-comers. * Ambition is admirable. Potentially notable people should only be included when they have, err, become notable. I would describe myself as an "anti-dilutionist". I'd like to see as many articles as possible, but I don't want the good stuff drowning in seas of irrelevant pages on empheral topics such as websites ( there's http://dmoz.org for those ), unnotable people or pure news reports. An article on Wikipedia should never contribute to, but only reflect notability (success, achievement, notoriety). Should you see my vote on an article you submitted, possibly with a slightly sarcastic comment, it's not personal, but remember what it said on the editing page: If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, do not submit it. I have particularly little patience with obvious self-promotion. == bookmarks == * Wikipedia:Criteria_for_inclusion_of_biographies *Wikipedia:No_original_research *What_Wikipedia_is_Not *Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Precedents *Wikipedia:What%27s_in%2C_what%27s_out *Wikipedia:Offline_reports **Wikipedia:Offline_reports/Nothing_links_to_this_stub ---- u ū o Ō o ō See other meanings of words starting from letter: IIA | IB | IC | ID | IE | IF | IG | IH | IJ | IK | IL | IM | IN | IO | IP | IR | IS | IT | IU | IW | IX | IY | IZ |Words begining with Ianb: Ianb Ianb Ianb/Archive1 Ianb/test Ianb/Vanity Ianblair23 Ianblair23 Ianblair23/Australia_at_the_2006_Commonwealth_Games Ianblair23/Australia_at_the_2006_Commonwealth_Games Ianblair23/Basketball_at_the_2006_Commonwealth_Games Ianblair23/Basketball_at_the_2006_Commonwealth_Games Ianblair23/Boxing_at_the_2006_Commonwealth_Games Ianblair23/Boxing_at_the_2006_Commonwealth_Games Ianblanes Ianbrown Ianbrown Ianbrown/Contributions Ianbrown/Cricket Ianbrown/Images Ianbrown/Licensing Ianbrown/monobook.css Ianbrown/Notes Ianbrown/Sandbox Ianbrown/sandbox Ianbrown/Sandbox2 Ianbrown/Tables Ianbrown/To_do IanBrownRedemptionSong.ogg |
