Ian RushIan Rush (born October 20, 1961) is a Wales footballer. He played for Liverpool F.C., and is their all-time highest goalscorer. In two spells with the club, Rush scored 346 goals in 658 league games, having joined them from Chester City F.C. in 1980. In the summer of 1987, he was transferred to the Italian giants, Juventus in Serie A, although he did not join the club until a year later, as part of the deal, allowing to have a final season with Liverpool. His time at Juve was less than successful, netting only seven times in 29 games. After one season, he was back at Anfield, rejoining in the summer of 1988. He once famously described his stay in the north of Italy as like being "in a foreign country". He also played for the Welsh national football team for whom he scored 28 goals in 76 games. Unfortunately for the man from North Wales, he never got the chance to play in a major tournament for his country. Later in his career he played for Leeds United F.C., Newcastle United F.C. and Wrexham F.C.. He was appointed manager of League Two team Chester City F.C. in August 2004 having removed himself from the unofficial shortlist for the post of manager of the Welsh national team in November 2004. He resigned from his post at Chester in April 2005 citing disagreements with the Chairman as the reason for his departure. Ian Rush was mentioned in a famous United Kingdom milk television commercial. The advert featured two boys with strong Scouse accents in Liverpool F.C. shirts. After a game of football they talk about milk. The dialogue ran as follows: :Boy 1: ''"Do you want a drink?"'' :Boy 2: ''"Got any lemonade?"'' :Boy 1: ''"If you want!"'' (he takes a bottle of milk from the fridge) :Boy 2: ''"Milk.....Ugh!"'' :Boy 1: ''"It's what Ian Rush drinks."'' :Boy 2: ''"Ian Rush?"'' :Boy 1: ''"Yeah, an' he says if I don't drink lots of milk, when I grow up I'm only gonna be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley F.C.!"'' :Boy 2: ''"Accrington Stanley? ... Who are they??!"'' :Boy 1: ''"Exactly!"'' :Boy 2: ''"Gimmie some!"'' :Boy 1: ''"Gerroff!"'' ==Honours and Awards== * ''First Division (English Football)'': 5 ** 1981/82 1982/83 1983/84 1985/86 1989/90 * ''FA Cup'': 3 ** 1986 1989 1992 * ''League Cup'': 5 ** 1981 1982 1983 1984 1995 * ''Champions League'': 1 ** 1984 * ''Charity Shield'': 4 ** 1982 1986 (shared) 1989 1990 (shared) * ''PFA Players' Player of the Year'': 1 ** 1984 * ''PFA Young Player of the Year'': 1 ** 1983 1961 births Welsh footballers Liverpool F.C. players Juventus F.C. players Newcastle United F.C. players See other meanings of words starting from letter: IIA | IB | IC | ID | IE | IF | IG | IH | IJ | IK | IL | IM | IN | IO | IP | IR | IS | IT | IU | IW | IX | IY | IZ |Words begining with Ian_Rush: Ian_Rush |
