Ian Liddell-GraingerIan Richard Peregrine Liddell-Grainger (born 23 February 1959) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He is Conservative Party (UK) member of Parliament for Bridgwater. He was educated at Millfield, Somerset and South Scotland Agricultural College. Before entering parliament he was a farmer and a company director, and a Major in the Territorial Army. What is less known is that his father owns and lives in a rather splendid castle, and Ian is a gt.gt.gt.grandson of Queen Victoria. He is also a great-grandson of the 12th Earl of Lindsey. In these respects he must be one of the few with the de-facto pre-war qualifications to be a Tory M.P. ==External links== *[http://www.somersetwest.org.uk/ Ian Liddell Grainger MP] official site *[http://politics.guardian.co.uk/person/0,9290,-5797,00.html Guardian Unlimited Politics - Ask Aristotle: Ian Liddell-Grainger MP] *[http://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/ian_liddell-grainger/bridgwater TheyWorkForYou.com - Ian Liddell-Grainger MP] 1959 births British MPs UK Conservative Party politicians Ian Liddell-GraingerMr Liddell-Grainger is one of the few MPs in the country where a group of constituents have formed an association with the objective of having him removed as the MP for the constituency. This association is known as The Competent Candidate Campaign Group, and it has published and distributed 700 copies of a newsletter entitled Is this Britain’s Most Incompetent MP at the Conservative conference in Bournemouth, and then a further 10,000 copies entitled Has our MP earned another five years? throughout his Constituency in West Somerset. The newsletters contained a series histories of constituents who consider that they have been seriously let down by Mr Liddell-Grainger. Mr Liddell-Grainger claims that this is a political grouping, however only two of the members is, or ever has been, a member of a political party, and in both cases these were Conservatives. Furthermore, more of the members voted Conservative in the last election than voted for all of the other parties put together. The CCCG is not a political grouping. It is a group of people living in West Somerset who say, Our MP is incompetent, and we do not want him any more. If the Conservative party announce a different candidate at the next general election, the group will immediately disband, and many of its members will vote for the new Conservative candidate. The fact that the group has a predominance of normally Conservative voters, should give a wake-up call to the leaders of the Conservative party. Unfortunately, despite being made fully aware of the facts two months before the major distribution, Dr Liam Fox has chosen to ignore the evidence and has given his full support to Mr Liddell-Grainger. It appears in this regard, that the Conservative party takes the same stance as the Labour party; the cover-up is always the first option considered. Mr Liddell-Grainger also claims that CCCG is a small group of malcontents, however the group membership is now approaching 100. Following the Conference distribution, the activities of the group became front page news stories on two of the main local newspapers. Following the newspaper stories, the group organiser was invited to debate with Mr Liddell-Grainger on a local BBC radio station. Unfortunately the presenter of the program had to open the article with the following announcement, “We did invite Ian Liddell-Grainger onto the Breakfast Show today, and he REFUSED to come on and debate with you”. It is a sad reflection on the integrity of modern day parliamentarians, that Mr Liddell-Grainger was happy to vote in favour of sending troops from Somerset to Iraq where they face suicide bombers, Rocket Propelled Grenades and kidnappers who cut of the heads of their victims, but he himself does not have the courage to come on to a small local radio station to talk to his critics. Following the radio broadcast, members of our group were invited to make their case on the BBC1 Politics Show, and this was broadcast on National television in November of 2004. People whose requests for help have been ignored by Mr Liddell-Grainger include a pensioner who was seeking a Motability vehicle for his quadriplegic wife, a man with severe disabilities as a result of ME, a man seeking a refund of VAT which Customs and Excise admit was incorrectly charged, and a further pensioner who was seeking a grant to assist with the cost of insulation and centrally heating her cottage which had serious damp problems. These people will not stand idly by while Dr Fox tries to sweep these problems under the table, and our group will continue to draw public attention to the incompetance of Mr Liddell-Grainger right up to the day of the next election. When the turnout at the next election reaches another all-time low, Mr Liddell-Grainger, and his party leaders will be just as responsible as parliamentarians like Peter Mendelson, Stephen Byers, Beverly Hughes, and the leaders of the Labour party who tried to cover up their failings. == Who Wants To Be an MP. == The article in the WDP by Ian Liddle-Grainger re who would want to be an MP, made me think he was trying to put people off. He must now realise he cannot win the Bridgwater seat at the next election. There are now plans in place to visit every person in the constituancy with our documents. We also have press releases ready as soon as an election is called. We will not accept that any Conservative MP is better than none.We want to see an MP who will look after the interest of all and can be bothered to acknowlege all his constituants who contact him.Again I stress this is not personal on my behalf I have never met the man. it is about the right man for the job.
