High concept, in film, is a term used to refer to the style and mode of production developed by Hollywood, California studios in the late 1970s. Steven Spielberg ''Jaws (movie)'' (1975 in film) and George Lucas ''Star Wars'' (1977 in film) are commonly referred to as the first high concept movies. The plot of a high concept movie is easily understood by audiences, and can often be described in a sentence or two. The story line is extremely efficient in that every scene and character is used to drive the plot forward.
