Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi

''Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi'' is an American animated television series produced by Renegade Animation for the Cartoon Network cable channel, following the adventures of cartoon versions of J-Pop musical duo Puffy AmiYumi (a.ka Puffy), created by the show's executive producer Sam Register and premiered on November 19, 2004. Puffy AmiYumi, the duo of Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura, were already well known to viewers of the show's U.S. broadcaster, Cartoon Network, for performing the theme to the network's hit show Teen Titans (animated series). They have been immensely popular in Japan since making their debut there in 1996 and also have several U.S. albums to their credit, with the most recent being a 2004 companion album to this program. According to Register, the show's target audience is kids from 6 to 11, particularly girls. Each program is 30 minutes long (with commercials) and features three seven-minute episodes. Each episode includes short clips of the real Puffy AmiYumi making childish commentary (in both English and unsubtitled Japanese) at the beginning and end of each half-hour show during the first season, and only at the start of the second season. In addition to that during Season Two, they are seen holding title cards for the segements of each episode. In the cartoon, Yumi (pronounced "YOU-me") is depicted as a punk rocker, grouchy and super cynical while Ami (pronounced "AH-me") is peppy, cute and more "bubblegum". Kaz -- presumably a nickname -- is their well-intentioned yet money grubbing manager, whose successes are usually evenly balanced out by his foolish decisions (According to Register, "Kaz Harada" is the real Puffy's real life manager). The show is also the perfect showcase for Puffy AmiYumi's music, which has been hailed by critics for its poppy eclecticism. Ami and Yumi performed the theme song (in English), and many episodes feature one of the duo's songs playing in the background. Despite the main characters being Japanese person and occasionally peppering their dialogue with the language, and despite using a few of the stylistic trademarks of anime in regard to the animation style (including one battle scene which was a parody of "Yu-Gi-Oh!"), it is one of the newer Cartoon Network shows not generally considered to be inspired by anime. In a twist of fate, in 2005, the show began airing on Cartoon Network's Japanese network in English with Japanese subtitles, and since April 2005 the show is running on [http://cartoonnetworkla.com/spanish/promos/puffyamiyumi/ Cartoon Network Latin America], dubbed in Spanish language. The show currently airs on Cartoon Network every Friday at 7:30 PM and 10:30 PM, Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 AM and Sunday nights at 9:30 PM Eastern and Pacific time in the US, with the main voice cast featuring Janice Kawaye as Ami, Grey DeLisle as Yumi, and Keone Young as Kaz. As of May 2005, it airs in the UK weekdays at 4 PM, and weekends at 10 AM. ==External links== *[http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/puffyamiyumi/ Cartoon Network ''Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi'' site] * Cartoon Cartoons

''from VfD:'' I do not believe this show is famous enough to warrant its own article. --User:AllyUnion User talk:AllyUnion 08:08, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) *Also, the image on the page has very very questionable copyright. :Image:Hihipuffy.JPG --User:AllyUnion User talk:AllyUnion 08:12, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) *It's pretty notable; I'd contend that all cartoons featured on Cartoon Network are. I know it's legitimate, I remember reading about it in Disney Adventures.. The image is probably nix on copyright. Copyrights, et al. - User:Vague Rant | User talk:Vague Rant 11:07, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC) *Cut out the image (and put it on Images for Deletion) and the lyrics, and then clean up. User:Geogre 13:11, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) *Keep: even short lived cartoons may be notable. FWIW, if the image is a single instance of unaltered publicity material, it is about as certainly fair use as anything can be. -- User:Ihcoyc 17:19, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) *COMMENT: ''Puffy Ami Yumi'' is definitely notable, and this is about them, so it's probably notable... User:132.205.45.110 18:34, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) *KEEP: you're wasting everybody's time with this. Check the WP:DP first next time. I don't see any test for ''famousness'' in the policy. User:Mdchachi|User talk:Mdchachi 19:16, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) **Apparently deletion policy is made up on the spot "refined and created" by the peer review which takes place here. Non-famous things might be regarded as non-notable, and thus get deleted. User:Kappa 19:27, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) ::The formal deletion policy is hopelessly outdated, and likely to remain that way, as it is nearly impossible to get consensus on any changes to anything related to deletion. Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Votes for deletion phrases much more accurately document current practice. User:Niteowlneils 22:27, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) :::Thanks for the links. Well in any case a nationally syndicated tv show featuring Japanese pop stars is unquestionably notable if not a life-changing phenomenon. :-) User:Mdchachi|User talk:Mdchachi 20:29, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC) *Keep, expand and lose the copyvio'd lyrics. Cartoon Network is pushing this show big time. Once you get past the title, the show's actually pretty good. There's an image from Cartoon Network posted on the "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" page that's free use with the caveat that the image is used strictly in promotional material. This image is probably OK to use as well. - User:Lucky 6.9 21:20, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) *Keep. Very peculiar arguments for deletion as of late. User:GRider\User_talk:GRider">User:GRider|User:GRider\User_talk:GRider 21:21, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC) *Keep. Current culture is notable. Well-pushed shows on a notable television network are notable. And I don't know how meaningful this is to you, but both the 5 year old and 10 year old in my house are enamored with ''H. I. Puffnstuf Ami YuGiOh.'' Or whatever it's called. :) - [[User:KeithTyler|User:KeithTyler ''[User_talk:KeithTyler]'']] 00:58, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC) *Keep. Regardless of whether or not the show only started this year, it is still verfiably notable and worthy of inclusion. —RaD_Man\">en:RaD_Man_(User_talk:Radman1)">User:Radman1|RaD_Man\">en:RaD Man (User_talk:Radman1) 16:34, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC) *Keep; show is well advertised and annoying, making it notable. User:A2Kafir 00:43, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC) *Keep They're famous in Japan, so it has some cross-cultural values User:Jdjuice 07:28, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC) ** Note that we are discussing the article about the cartoon show based on the band, and not the article for the band itself, Puffy AmiYumi. I'm not sure if this will affect your opinion or not, but the distiction should probably be made anyway. - User:RedWordSmith 16:43, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC) *KeepPlease I love the show. * Not inspired by anime? Well, not very.. but it's inaccurate to say not _at all_ .. i'd say perhaps as much as jackie chan adventures is. Definitely not as much as one would expect. ''end moved discussion''
