Herschelkrustofsky=''Nota bene''= Shortly after joining Wikipedia in Spring of 2004, I became involved in a dispute with a group of editors over the article on Lyndon LaRouche. My version of the story is that I wished the article to conform to Wikipedia NPOV policy, whereas my opponents wished it to be a soapbox for their anti-LaRouche point of view (see User:Herschelkrustofsky for more information). In the course of this dispute, I requested arbitration, which had little effect. Ultimately, the dispute was resolved through negotiation and compromise on October 10, 2004. Those who are curious may consult the edit history of Lyndon LaRouche and related articles from October 10 until early November to get an idea of what I considered honest compromise versions of those articles. During this period, I was free to concentrate on editing articles about Classical Music, South America, and other areas of interest. Not long thereafter, a new group of three editors arrived on the scene, and re-opened the dispute. These new editors were more fanatically determined to make the articles into propaganda vehicles, to further their agenda of the demonization of LaRouche and his movement. Ultimately a new round of arbitration was initiated, and it has become clear that when the smoke clears, the result will be some form of restriction upon myself and another editor, Weed Harper, who took my side in the disputes; we will be prevented from editing LaRouche-related articles. There will likely be no similar restraints upon the anti-LaRouche team of editors, who will waste no time in converting the LaRouche articles into a soapbox for propaganda, making a mockery of the NPOV policy. As much as I enjoy editing articles on music, South America, and so on, I would be embarassed to be associated with Wikipedia under such circumstances. Therefore, I you wish to contact me, do not leave a message on this page; instead, use the [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Emailuser&target=Herschelkrustofsky "email this user"] link. --User:Herschelkrustofsky 22:32, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC) ---- ''Archives:'' User_talk:Herschelkrustofsky/archive1 User_talk:Herschelkrustofsky/threats and insults User_talk:Herschelkrustofsky/The Third Trial of Lyndon LaRouche HerschelkrustofskyI am an old guy, with some knowledge of history, politics and art. My goals, upon joining Wikipedia, were to keep Wikipedia free from propaganda, and to ensure that Wikipedia is not afraid to cross swords with "conventional wisdom" when it is false. I must confess that I have been disappointed on both counts. It is considered "un-encyclopediac" to "cross swords with conventional wisdom." It is also well-nigh impossible to dispel propaganda, or even, it seems, to ensure that that the Wikipedia NPOV policy is enforced. Under the circumstances I would suggest, gentle reader, that you think twice before believing anything presented in Wikipedia's articles. [[image:jqadams.jpg|frame|''John Quincy Adams, American patriot and father of the Monroe Doctrine'']] I am the implacable foe of neocolonialism. I can think of nothing more dishonorable than for one faction to predicate its fortunes on the misfortunes of another. And nothing disgusts me more than the practice, endemic among the English-speaking print and electronic media, of acting as apologists for neocolonialism, or worse, tarting it up in the various guises such as "spreading democracy." I look forward to the day when I can pick up a newsmagazine, or watch a news broadcast on TV, without getting a warmed-over version of the White Man's Burden. And of course, Hell hath no fury like the English-speaking press, when a political leader becomes, shall we say, inconvenient to the defenders of neocolonial arrangements. I have seen the demonization of such leaders throughout my life, and since it is so widespread, it seeps into Wikipedia as well. Therefore, I took it upon myself to combat it, first in the group of articles pertaining to Template:LaRouche, and then in articles pertaining to Manuel Noriega. I was temporarily successful in both instances. I have also authored biographical articles on African-American composers Harry Burleigh and Hall Johnson, plus substantially beefed up the articles on Ernst von Dohnanyi, Isoperimetry, and Musical development. ---- On a personal note, I invite you to turn up your speakers and and listen to a media:sonata.mid that I composed.
