HermeticA container or barrier that is hermetic is sealed so that not even air can enter or leave. For example a tin (or can). ==Etymology== This word comes from the syncretism of the Greek God Hermes and the Egyptian Thoth who was also a mythological alchemy known as Hermes Trismegistus who has two books attributed to him, the Emerald Tablet and the Corpus Hermeticum. He was known to possess a magic (paranormal) ability to seal (with spells) and treasure chests so that nothing could access its contents. Alchemists also frequently used distillation in their experiments, and needed an airtight seal to improve the efficiency of their alembic stills. Although most alchemists where considered to be Hermetics by there use of the Emerald Tablets or Corpus Hermeticum adopted as their philosophy See also Hermeticism, Hermetically_sealed See other meanings of words starting from letter: HHA | HB | HC | HD | HE | HF | HG | HI | HJ | HK | HL | HM | HN | HO | HP | HR | HS | HT | HU | HW | HX | HY | HZ |Words begining with Hermetic: Hermetic Hermetica Hermetica Hermetically_sealed Hermeticism Hermeticist Hermetic_(disambiguation) Hermetic_Corpus Hermetic_Corpus Hermetic_Order_of_the_Golden_Dawn Hermetic_Order_of_the_Golden_Dawn Hermetic_philosophy Hermetic_Writings |
