It borders the counties of Shropshire in the north, Worcestershire in the east, Gloucestershire in the south east and the Preserved counties of Wales counties of Gwent in the south west and Powys in the west. The county had eleven traditional hundred (division)s, of Broxash, Ewyas-Lacy, Greytree, Grimsworth, Huntingdon (hundred), Radlow, Stretford, Webtree, Wigmore, Wolphy, and Wormelow. In 1974 it was administratively merged with the neighbouring Worcestershire to form the short-lived Hereford and Worcester. Within this, Herefordshire territory was covered by the districts of South Herefordshire, Hereford, and part of Malvern Hills (district) and Leominster (district) districts. On April 1, 1998 it was split out again, in the form of a unitary authority, with broadly the same borders as before. Herefordshire is a very rural county best known for its fruit growing and cider production in particular. When Celia Fiennes visited Herefordshire in 1696 she saw a countryside in which apple and pear trees were growing everywhere 'even in their corn fields and hedgerows'. Modern agriculture has put pressure on the ancient orchards in the county but many of them still survive today. ==Cities, Towns and villages== ''See the list of places in Herefordshire.'' Main county towns include Hereford, which is the main administrative centre, as well as Leominster, Ledbury, Ross On Wye, Kington, Herefordshire and Bromyard. ==Places of interest== *Abbey Dore *Hereford Cathedral *Malvern Hills Herefordshire Herefordshire==Change done by anonymous user== The revision made by 62.188.4.34. Changed ''"... form of a unitary authority, although not with the same borders as before ..."'' to ''"... form of a unitary authority, with the same borders as before ..."'' this is a complete 180 degree change but I know nothing about this area and do not know which one is factual.
