Hedgehog in the Fog

''Hedgehog in the Fog'' (Russian language: Ёжик в тума́не) is a 1975 Soviet Union animated film directed by Yuri Norstein, produced at the Soyuzmultfilm studio in Moscow. The film was written by Sergei Kozlov, who also published a book in Russian with the same name. ==Plot== This is a story about a little hedgehog (voice of Mariya Vinogradova) and his friend bear cub (voice of Vyacheslav Nevinny). They would meet every evening to drink tea with raspberry jam, to gaze at the sky and to count the stars. But one time the hedgehog was passing through the wood to his friend and got lost in the fog. He finds himself in the strange world of the frightening creatures (eagle-owl and the bat) and helpful, kind ones (the dog, the horse) of the silence and rustles, of the darkness, high grass and attracting stars. All things around him are as if dreaming. Characters of the hedgehog and the bear cub are very sensitive, kind and romantic. In contrast, the eagle-owl is pragmatic, incapable of feeling the beauty of the surrounding world. ==Other information== The skill of the animator coupled with the deep plot resulted in the magic and bewitching atmosphere of the whole film. Quoting a description from the database of the Soviet Union/Russian animated films: ''This film is impossible to tell, like music, like nature, like Beauty...'' [http://www.animator.ru/db/index.phtml?p=show_film&fid=2684] . It got the first prize for the best animated film at the ''All-Union Film Festival'' in Bishkek 1976, also at the Children's and Youth Film Festival in Teheran the same year. In 2003 it was awarded the title of the best animated film of all times at the ''Laputa Animation Festival'' in Tokyo. ==External links== * *[http://hedgehoginmist.narod.ru/ Fan page (in Russian)] *[http://www.laputa-jp.com/laputa/program/bestanime/index.shtml Laputa Animation Festival 2003 (in Japanese)] 1975 films Animated films Soviet animation Russian animation

Hedgehog in the Fog

I think the article should mention the book on which the cartoon was based. After all, the book came out first, although the cartoon is undoubtedly much more well-known.—User:Ezhiki 20:04, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC) :Sorry, I didn't mention, who wrote the film. But as concerns the book, I am not sure, that it was published ''before'', the earliest edition I found in the library is dated 1981. If you are sure, that it was, then correct my changes, please. User:Cmapm 22:52, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC) ::Well, for some reason I know for sure that the book was first, but now, when I think about it, I have no idea why I am so sure. I can certainly provide no facts to support my belief. Anyway, a Yandex search comes up with several references confirming that the cartoon was based on Kozlov's book, but, unfortunately, none of those references looks reliable enough. I'd love to do a library check myself, but I do not have access to Russian libraries. I guess let's leave it for now; if I (or anyone else reading this, for that matter) find anything to confirm either version ("the book based on the cartoon" vs. "the cartoon based on the book"), I will post it here for sure. At least the book is now mentioned in the article, for which please accept my gratitude.—User:Ezhiki 02:48, Apr 28, 2005 (UTC) :::Accepted, thanks! I actually browsed the online catalog of the ''Russian State Library'' [http://www.rsl.ru/]. Certainly, it may well be, that, for example, the book was written before the film, but published only in 1981. User:Cmapm 14:13, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
