Its capital is the city of Miercurea-Ciuc (''Csíkszereda''),(population: 42,029). Its common abbreviation is HR. The county is made up of the two former Székely (Szekler) counties of Csík- and Udvarherly-szék. ==Demographics== In 2002, it had a population of 326,222 and the population density was 52/km². The county has a total area of 6.610km². 84.6% (276,106) of its population is Hungarian, making it the county with the highest proportion of Hungarians off all Transylvania. ===Ethnicity=== According to the latest national census, the major ethnic groups in the county are: * Hungarian minority in Romania (84.6% or 276,038) * Romanians (14.1% or 45.870) * Rromas (1.2% or 3835). The primary Hungarian group, the Székely (Szeklers), form majorities in most municipalities in the county, with Romanians concentrated in a few specific towns, such as Toplita (Maroshévíz). ===Religion=== By religion, the county is divided roughly thus: * Roman Catholic (65%) * Orthodox (13%) * Reformed (13%) * Unitarian (7%) * Other (2%). The Székely tend to follow Catholicism, while the Romanians are primarily Orthodox. ==Geography== Harghita County has a total area of 1 E9 m%B2. Harghita consists primarily of mountains connected to the Eastern Carpathians, such as the Ciuc Mountains (Csík) and Harghita Mountains (Hargita) ranges, volcanic plateaux, foothills and the more densely populated river valleys. The mountains are volcanic in origin and the region is known for its excellent hot mineral springs. Harghita is known as one of the coldest regions in all of Romania, but summers can be quite warm. Provided enough rain falls, the county's climate is excellent for wild mushrooms. The county contains the sources of two of the most important rivers in Romania, the Mures river (Maros) and the Olt river. These rivers' origins, near the villages of Izvoru Muresului (Marosfő) and Sandominic (Csíkszentdomokos), are only a few miles apart, yet the Mureş flows west to the Tisa (Tisza), while the Olt flows south to the Danube. Harghita's many spectacular natural features include Sfanta Ana (Szent-Anna), a volcanic crater lake in the south of the county near Tusnad (Tusnád), Lacu Rosu (Gyilkos-tó) a mountain lake in the northeast near Gheorgheni (Gyergyószentmiklós); and nearby Cheile Bicazului (Békási-szoros), a dramatic, narrow canyon formed by the Bicaz (Békás) stream. The county is famous for its spa resorts and its mineral waters. ==List of municipalities in Harghita county== ==Cities== * Miercurea-Ciuc (Csíkszereda) * Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely) ==Towns== * Gheorgheni (Gyergyószentmiklós) * Toplita (Maroshévíz) * Cristuru Secuiesc (Székelykeresztúr) * Balan (Balánbánya) * Vlahita (Szentegyháza) * Borsec (Borszék) * Baile Tusnad (Tusnádfürdő) ==Communes== *Atid (Etéd) *Avramesti (Szentábrahám) *Bilbor (Bélbor) *Bradesti (Fenyéd) *Capalnita (Kápolnásfalu) *Carta, Romania (Karcfalva) *Ciucsangergiu (Csíkszentgyörgy) *Ciumani (Gyergyócsomafalva) *Corbu (Gyergyóholló) *Corund (Korond) *Danesti (Csíkdánfalva) *Darjiu (Székelyderzs) *Dealu (Oroszhegy) *Ditrau (Ditró) *Felicieni (Felsőboldogfalva) *Frumoasa (Szépvíz) *Galautas (Galócás) *Joseni (Gyergyóalfalu) *Lazarea (Gyergyószárhegy) *Lueta (Lövéte) *Lunca de Jos (Gyimesközéplok) *Lunca de Sus (Gyimesfelsőlok) *Lupeni, Hargita, Romania (Farkaslaka) *Martinis (Homorósszentmárton) *Meresti (Homoródalmás) *Mihaileni (Csíkszentmihály) *Mugeni (Bögöz) *Ocland (Oklánd) *Pauleni-Ciuc (Csíkpálfalva) *Plaiesii de Jos (Kászonaltíz) *Praid (Parajd) *Remetea (Gyergyóremete) *Sacel (Székelyandrásfalva) *Sancraieni (Csíkszentkirály) *Sandominic (Csíkszentdomokos) *Sanmartin (Csíkszentmárton) *Sansimion (Csíkszentsimon) *Sarmas (Salamás) *Secuieni (Újszékely) *Seculeni (Madéfalva) *Simonesti (Siménfalva) *Subcetate (Gyergyóvárhegy) *Suseni (Gyergyóújfalu) *Tulghes (Gyergyótölgyes) *Tusnad (Tusnád) *Ulies (Kányád) *Varsag (Székelyvarság) *Voslabeni (Vasláb) *Zetea (Zetelaka)

==Follow the basic rules of respect for the country where you live in== Please follow the international rules of using the official language of the country when providing the names of Cities, Counties, Villages, Mountains, Rivers, etc. Harghita is a county in Romania , so the Romanian form of the names will be used first, and then the Szekler version. : Romanian name. Etymology is another thing. User:Bogdangiusca | User talk:Bogdangiusca 15:09, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC) == Harghita bottled mineral water == Bottled mineral water imported from Harghita, Romania (it is marketed as Harghita) is sold in many stores here in Los Angeles, California and is often found in grocery store chains such as Jons. I've bought bottles of it enough times. I'm going to read more of the label on the next bottle & add the info on the company into the article probably, since it is a principal product of the region. User:Decius 09:20, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC) I'll get a bottle again eventually, but I've been drinking Perrier lately. User:Decius 12:14, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
